I'm asking this question on behalf of someone who is having software issues with their note 4 (boot loop). They sent it off to Samsung to be repaired and Samsung have said that they will not repair it as it has been routed as Knox was tripped. The owner of the phone says that they have never rooted the phone. All they have done is flashed the official firmware using Kies. Is it possible for Kies to trip Knox?

Just using Kies should not trip Knox. But Samsung should have a log of the device being flashed. Since kies is there own app I would think they could pull logs from the app itself to verify.

Thanks. I will suggest it to them. The diagnostic from Samsung gives the code Knox 01 and they are saying that the warranty is voided.

    YES!!!

I reported this happened to me with my Note 4 on this forum.

My Note 4 got into a software bootloop after an OTA update and had to use Kies for emergency firmware recovery and it tripped Knox flag.

:(. So yes. It can and does happen. As much as people give out about iTunes, I think we can safely say Kies is 100x worse :(

Did they buy the Note 4 used? It might have been tripped before they bough it?

Sadly (or thankfully) I never had to get warranty repair but if I had I would have been screwed. But because of the tripped flag I ended up having to sell it as a warranty voided device and lost a lot of money on it :(

Connected it to computer in download mode and then Kies Emergency Recovery was able to detect it and re-download and flash full firmware.

Since that fiasco I would use Odin instead of Kies any day of the week. I actually used Kies simply because i wanted to avoid any issues than using third party software ...

Thanks. I've passed on this. He wasn't sure what you meant by download mode though?

    Use a hardware button combination
    1. You can enter download mode with ease if you choose to follow a hardware button combination on your Note 4 – anyway, this method will require some practice, so don’t panic if you don’t manage to access download mode from the first try.
    2. Good; now, first of all, turn off your phablet. Don’t just reboot it, I mean a proper shut down operation: press power button and select “power off” or just press and hold power key for a few seconds.
    3. Then, press and hold volume down, home and power buttons at the same time, for a few moments.
    4. Your device should reboot in download mode.
    5. Now you can safely connect your Note 4 with your computer for resuming the update operation.

Thanks guys. I've passed it on. Samsung are sending the phone back to him so he will try and recover it.
