My coworker is using some AI subscription that summaries books for a 20 min run.

My BF is always asking ChatGPT to describe him a movie ending. Before we even finished watching! The "funny" thing is seeing how often it just hallucinates and writes up plot details that don't even happen out of its rear end

We are doomed
Only if you are using those "services" ;)

Ugh. If it start making up poetic reasons for the author's choice of curtain colors.😖
The problem with that meme is that authors DO use setting to convey emotional state of characters in that setting, and if you're reading a book for a literature class it's highly likely to be from that kind of author.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but this isn't dream analysis: it's literature. The realm of allegory, allusion, metaphor and simile.

My immigrant mother probably would have loved this for helping read and understand novels in English. I can't wait until we get this for RPGs, to remind me what the hell's going on when I put one down for a few months or years.

So what's the point of even reading the book anymore when you can Cole's Notes the whole thing?

What a useless idea.
If I get to page 200 of a book and they talk about some character from 150 pages ago, it would be nice to be able to get the information instead of vaguely remembering something about it and having to go back and figure it out.

Oh, you're not going to like a book series where the characters who died in the first book still influences events in books 2-5?😘 It's been nearly 15 years and still no Winds of Winter.😠😣😫😭

Not surprising to see AI getting incorporated into Kindle app or any other services. Don't think I will use it. Expecting to see worldwide rollout in the coming months.

I can see some writers and publishers not being happy with this at all, and pulling the rights for their books from Kindle.
That done, you can expect the books you 'bought' to disappear from your devices - because, in fact, you've only rented them. If Kindle loses the rights, the 'Poof!' goes your library.
