Since most public libraries in the UK are being closed, this seems like the logical step forward.

In my area, this is already being done. Visit the site and you can check out books. This will make it easier and I hope it makes it to all the book readers not just the Kindle. IE Nook, iBooks etc.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Would be very nice if it happens in the UK

Finally. I've been flip-flopping for months over whether to get a Nook or a Kindle. I liked the Kindle more, but not being able to borrow library book almost nudge me towards the Nook. With this piece of news, Kindle is the clearly the reader for me.

Awesome! I'll use this all the time when it launches in the US.
