Not to worry. B&N will still be around because of three factors:

1. They have a burgeoning online business that they've always owned since 1997.

2. B&N has a real moneymaker in the college textbook business, despite what everyone says about college textbooks being financial ripoffs.

3. B&N, like Amazon, wisely got into the e-book reader business with their own branded reader back in 2009, and designed their physical bookstores with free Wi-Fi hotspots where you can use any B&N-branded e-book reader and preview any book in their e-book catalog for free at the store.

Frankly, I like the Nook Simple Touch because it's really easy to hold and use, and it's hard to beat the US$99 price, too. :)

How is it "hard to beat" at that price when Amazon has a Kindle for the same price, and one $20 cheaper?

I've played with the new non-touch Kindle and button controls were a bit awkward to use. I like the Nook Simple Touch because being all touchscreen (especially now with the new software upgrade), the new Nook is easy to use flipping back and forth between pages.

I've got the Kindle3 with the keyboard and it is absolutely perfect.

The only buttons which really matter, realistically, are the side buttons to turn the page. The fact is also that I wanted JUST an ereader. When I read I don't wnat to be distractable at all, and the Kindle does exactlythat.

Kindle all the way. B&N is a dinosaur and unable to compete in today's world. Their big box stores are disappearing, they're online presence is no where near Amazon's and finally I think Amazon offers more bang for your buck.

I would go with the Kindle mainly because of the Amazon backbone. Hardware wise I believe the Kindle and Nook are very similar. Its Amazon that makes the difference.
