Kirk Douglas, one of the most famous American leading men of the mid-20th century remembered for his dimpled chin, chiseled features, and virile Hollywood roles, died Wednesday at the age of 103, his family announced.

"It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103," Kirk's son, Michael Douglas, wrote in a statement shared to social media.

He continued: "To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.

RIP Spartacus.

My mom likes old classics so I grew up watching several movies with him in it but most notably - 20k leagues under the sea. He always struck me as a passionate actor - A+. My wife and I will definitely go out of our way to watch more of his movies. :(

My Kirk Douglass favorites in no particular order:
  • Spartacus.
  • Lonely Are The Brave
  • Seven Days in May
  • In Harms Way
  • The War Wagon
  • Gunfight At The OK Corral
  • Ace In The Hole (The Big Carnival. This movie had 2 titles at different times.)
  • 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
  • The Vikings

He was the last of the golden age of Hollywood.

I think Oliva de Havilland (who will be 104 this summer) is still alive.

However, certainly, Kirk Douglas was one of the last male actors of the golden, olden, age of Hollywood to have lived until now.

And some of the movies he played roles in - The Vikings, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, and Last Train From Gun Hill, are excellent.
