Not sure, I've never used the stock email app. I've always used the gmail app. I don't really notice any difference in the overall performance with Sense 5.5.

I heard about it on Android Central. I had to go into Settings and manually check for updates. It is rather large 620 MB and will only work over wifi.

I checked and I still haven't received the update. Not that I use the HTC One any more, but I want to get it updated to KitKat.
