I have a late 2013 rMBP 15". Of course the cord on my power supply is frayed so I bought a new one from OWC - Other World Computing. It was on sale for $39.99 - normally $49.99 (without the extension portion).

When I got it I see it is used. I check the receipt, it says used. I don't recall the web page saying that, and now that sale is over so I can't check it... but I'll concede it may have said it was used, I wish that detail was more prominent, but maybe that's my fault. Any way...

I noticed the Mag Safe was bleeding LED light unlike my OEM one, and the brick seemed lighter. So I weighed them, and the OWC one is about 25% lighter as well. Looking closer I see that the little ears that pop out to coil wire has a difference - the Apple one has bevel around it and the OWC doesn't. Isn't OWC an Authorized Apple Reseller? I expect Chinese knock-offs on eBay and Amazon Marketplace, but not macsales.com.

What do you guys think?

I think you need to take this up with OWC. They have great customer service and I'm sure they will make it right.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We can 100% assure you that we do not sell knock-off MagSafe 2 power adapters. We have also confirmed that the webpage stated that the MagSafe 2 ordered was "Bulk Packaged. *Used, Good Condition*"

MagSafe 2 has been around for several years now and has had 3 companies produce them. All look identical other than silkscreening, and slight variances in strain relief connector and retaining clip.

Manufacturers include:
Delta
LiteOn
Samsung

1. Depending on the age, the power light on the adapter turns on at different varying rates. All 3 manufacturers are just a little different in operation.

2. Silkscreening on the adapters has also changed and varies between manufacturers. Some adapters may have slight variations in color or boldness.

3. Weight. Based on the fact that there are multiple manufacturers, weights vary. We personally weight every adapter that we sell and make sure that it is within the specifications for each manufacturer.

We see that you have set up a refund for your order and we are more than happy to refund you your money.

Please let us know if you have any further questions, we are always happy to help!
