WTF is an ultra wide sensor? I've heard of ultra wide LENSES...but not sensors.
Ever heard of Foxconn? The iPhone is slowly becoming a idroid with the anti reflective display being sourced from Samsung, Google being the default search engine, and now the camera components being sourced from Samsung. What’s next!
Just because you do not design the sensor or lenses does not mean there is not a massive amount of engineering and design put into making off-the-shelf components work together in the best possible way. What does Apple actually engineer besides CPUs?.
Displays: no, cameras:no. Lenses:no.
Could be some black magic way to remove some of the spherical abnormalities you get from ultra wide lenses?WTF is an ultra wide sensor? I've heard of ultra wide LENSES...but not sensors.
Most of the reviewers, especially the early bird ones are well taken care by the marketing teams, hence I take their reviews with pinch of salt. You need to actually test the mobile camera capability in real life conditions than testing it in the showroom which are very well lit. Even the DxoMark seems to be doing the same in terms of their bias. I have iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I can see the photos coming out of 24 Ultra is more detailed, vibrant and dynamic range whereas 15PM photos are True Tone, warm, bit underwhelming. Photos taken indoors or challenging lighting conditions, Samsung S24 Ultra wins but the ranking and scoring in the DxoMark will mislead you. Having said, iPhone photos are also good and long lasting in terms of iPhone camera app or iPhone photo app. The photos taken in my iPhone 3GS in 2010 is still usable in my iPhone with great picture quality. It is difficult to believe that Sony sensors which are being used in all flagship mobiles and digital cameras are NOT reliable and Apple has been perusing this sensors for almost decade or more and suddenly turning towards Samsung.Like some people have speculated, I also think this is more of a cost-cutting measure than Samsung providing a sensor that is superior to what Sony offers. I’ll definitely watch out for the first camera tests on these iPhones equipped with the new Samsung camera sensor to see if photo quality suffers, even slightly because of the change.
Excellent question. From the context I just think it's a sensor for the ultra wide camera module.WTF is an ultra wide sensor? I've heard of ultra wide LENSES...but not sensors.
