I find it difficult to believe Apple would discontinue the design that doesn’t go in-ear (or not offer both) as that’s the AirPods design that is literally everywhere and what some people prefer. I think it’s more likely they offer both choices to customers.

i hope so, or i might go back to different headphone makers. the pro's are hideous, and i don't need the stupid silicone tips - regular airpods fit my ears perfectly.

Have you guys considered maybe they'll keep the ear part the same but its just the stem and shape that will change to the pro design?

Otherwise if its exactly the same it will cannibalise sales of the pro.

I have the Airpods (2nd Gen) and the Airpods Pro, I prefer the Airpods for fit and comfort. I only like the Pros for the ANC, which is why i bought them, for daily use at the office. For walking/running/biking/phone calls I prefer the regular airpods.

The pros don’t have tips that work for me making the audio fell very different in each ear. I have a set of pros that I don’t use— the non-pros work much better for me.

The Pro design oddly does not fit well in my ears and have not been comfortable with During the weeks trial period. I love everything about the original airpods in comfort, sound and voice quality when talking. Maybe slight tweak to design and hardware update will be a welcome change.

The battery life degredation on AirPods really needs to improve. They are essentially trash after 18 months. They should either do some sort of reasonable trade in credit (not based on market value) or have a way to get them refurbished with a new design.

To each his own. I prefer in-ear earphones, but many people like the AirPods design. I think they'll continue to sell both, but the pro will likely remain only in-ear

“Why not ‘keep’ both ‘designs’?”

Not all ears are created equal. Sorry wrestlers, you made a choice. ;)

Neither version fits my ears. The regular AirPods fall out if I so much as turn my head.
The pros stay in only because i bought third party tips, and they still don’t pass the sound leakage checks. My ear holes are simply too big :)

To break it down:

When you look at the original AirPods, they simply rest on the outermost portion of your ear, that’s why they fit so comfortably for the majority of users. When you start looking at gel tips, that means the AirPod would have to insert deeper into your ear, which would cause pressure/discomfort in the most inner part of your ear. That’s why I don’t prefer gel-tip-like Bluetooth devices, because it’s uncomfortable.

Add me to the list of people that do NOT like in-ear AirPods. I can never find a sweet spot for comfort and usability. I WOULD like the original design with the new Spatial Awareness feature (or whatever it's called) that's coming to the Pros... Not sure if it's possible with that Pro ear seal.

I'm on my second pair of airpods and the first are garbage after 2 years. Battery life has gone down the drain.

Not sure I'm so interested in spending $150 every 2 years for them.
You can just buy Applecare+. It's $30 plus an additional $30 fee for service, and they will replace your airpods if the battery health drains more than 20% in two years So, the net cost would only be like $60 every two years.

I still have the first gen Airpods. Yes, battery life isn't as good, but I don't use them very much TBH, and on the occasion where I do, they still get me through a decent period of time.
