Apple plans to release its second-generation AirPods Pro next year, according to well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In his latest investor note, obtained by MacRumors, Kuo says that demand for AirPods is thought to be "lower-than-expected" for the remainder of this year, revising his forecast to 70-75 million, compared to 75-85 million. According to Kuo, the release of the second-generation AirPods Pro next year will boost shipments to more than 100 million.

Bloomberg reported last month that Apple's second-generation AirPods Pro will include "updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking." Apple is reportedly exploring the possibility of using a design similar to the recently launched Beats Studio Buds for the new AirPods Pro, which would eliminate the stem.

I'm a daily runner (thank you COVID for making me still afraid of gyms)... I'm thinking I would definitely buy these if they tracked miles, calories burned, workout sessions, etc. Basically an independent companion to the Fitness app.
How can they pack so many innovative features in a tiny little thing? Can you imagine the impact on the battery life.

I just want damn headphones. Play music and podcasts make them sound good. Give me noise cancelling. That’s all I want. That’s all I ever want. I don’t need or want health garbage in my headphones. Even the AirPod Max is overpriced, too heavy, and can’t use a physical connection for higher audio quality.

Except for not having Apple’s easy pairing (with apple products at least) and the stupid product names; Sony’s latest WFs and WHs really beat out apple’s headphones across the board (and this is from someone who uses the AirPods like 2/3s of the day).

Phew, thank goodness for that, I'm not interested in my earbuds providing me fitness information all I care about is sound quality so I can safely save some money, not upgrade, and not feel like I'm missing out.

Also is it just me or is saying "your headphones will provide fitness information" like saying "your underpants will tell you the weather forecast", normally those two things are not related.

I agree although the voice isolation for FaceTime audio calls in iOS 15 is a real game changer
Hopefully that voice isolation is implemented system wide (i.e everytime the BT connection switches to that voice mode that makes the currently playing music sound blasted and LoFi) and not just FaceTime.

Because what the previous commenter mentions is true, talking through the airpods boosts the surroundings for the receiver too much… and I think it’s because in reality, AirPods little stubs are so far away from the voice source that it does needs to boost and capture everything to catch it.

The current generation airpods pros are crap when it comes to phone calls. The person you're talking to can hear the background noise louder than your voice. I'm surprised no one is talking about this.

Using my APP, i was talking about my APP on my phone call today. “Crap”? Not even remotely so. Callers are very clear to me and they can hear me loud and clear.

What's the difference between an analyst and a leaker?

Analyst provides an 'educated guess' based on analysis of previous statistics/sales/products.

Leaker provides actual information based on blueprints/insider images/leaked documents etc.

Tracked miles would require a gps chip in there. Not happening. And besides, you have the watch for that.

I recently upgraded my 2nd gen AirPods to the AirPods Pro and its such an improvement.

Agreed, I have an airpods 2, and did not buy airpods pro, because i was unsure of the fit. And why experiment when i have been so happy with airpods form factor for years. But then my wife got airpods pro.... and they are better in all ways. A lot more secure in the ears, better isolation. Now its going to be a test of will power to stick with my airpods 2 for another 2-3 years.

I also hope they don't eliminate the stem. The squeeze to perform an action is a lot better than the ear-tap imo.

So, everything you ever want is already available and has been for years - so why are you so upset and annoyed?
I realize you dived onto your keyboard to try and dunk on me as quickly as possible but if you had waited to read the next paragraph, AirPod pairing with Apple devices is beautiful. Especially when I have an iPhone, a pair of iPads, AppleTV, some Mace, and a watch, all of which may need headphones at some point during my day.

I just want Apple to make good sounding headphones along with the leverage they already have in their ecosystem. I’d love if they’d make them easier to pair with non Apple devices too (I assume it’s possible but haven’t bothered). Take the good stuff and make the bad stuff better. I don’t know why anyone would take umbrage at that but here we are. I don’t want to pay multiple times for health features that may also be available on the watch. Nor do I really want higher prices to get the benefits (and likely still have to deal with the negatives).

You’re quick to jump on me, but between posting and seeing your reply I bought a second paired of the over ear MX4s. They come in a colorway I want (navy blue) and do everything but the easy pairing. So yeah putting my money where my mouth is.
