Bull. There's no way I'd eat a tariff if everyone knows who's the cause. This isn't some minor, slip it in a bill from Congress. This is Trump doing Trump. Tim is going to go nearly the full +10, and he's going to point at Don the Con.

Apple has been eating the tax for months already on other products, why do you think they’re going to radically change now?

It would be good PR for Apple to take the hit and it will be a bad PR hit for this administration.

Disagree. The administration would absolutely love one of the biggest electronics companies in the world is proving him right and not making the taxpayer directly pay for the tariffs. Tim could score some major political points with trump by absorbing the cost. Trump would play it off as mega wealthy companies taking the hit of the trade war and the consumer getting of easy.

people's hatre for trump is blinding their common senese... what else is new?

All politics aside, the hate Trump for "reasons" and Orange Man bad crowd are going to be the ones who get him re elected. His base is his base. We all know that.

John & Jane the Ragman's are looking at the debates and scratching their heads at the open borders and free health care for all immigrants while drowning in co pays (I owe several thousand for recent procedures, but not complaining, I got excellent care). They're scratching their heads and asking themselves "did he/she just say that?"

The best thing going against Trump right now is Joe Biden. Let that sink in. I'm from Delaware, and well. That's all I'll say. It's JOE BIDEN.

You're not winning an election wooing the NY,NJ,MD,CA crowd. You're all ready got those people.

Strap in and get ready for 8 straight years of Orange Man Tweets. That's what we're getting kiddos, and a price hike on iPhones really isn't going to make much of a difference...

Apple is overpriced since ages (MacBooks, iMacs, iPhones ... everything).
So creating good PR for a little over a year until the election is not an issue.
More important than price is the number of units.
If Apple can compensate for slow US/Europe sales, it really does not matter.
They will find the "amazing" keynote bullet point. I'm sure.
Honestly I really do not care until 5G and better quality control.

When Apple first raised prices significantly it was shortly after Trump even mentioned tariffs. My thinking at that time was that Apple was already preparing for it. Apple basically already put their tariffs in just in case. We’ve all been paying them for months now.

What everyone here seems to forget is the disproportionate amount in trade with a China. They steal our IP regularly, no one polices them as heavily as they should, and all in the name of cheaper labor.

China labor isn't so cheap anymore yet they're still one of the leading manufacturers in the world. Perhaps we should work on ideas on how to better compete than how to change the rules of a game we're losing.

For everyone blaming Trump, grow up and stop being a band wagoner. Since when has more government and any government been a good thing or been done correctly?
For the first time someone in the Oval Office in a long Time is there who doesn’t need the pay check. Yes he may do things for Corp America, but show me a few company’s who’s CEOs who aren’t about ever increasing their revenue and income?

Government used to be viewed as a role to serve the country. Now it’s a self serve and everyone goes along in blaming one person when it’s certainly not.

Our government had a very good plan for challenging China's dominance - it was called TPP, which Trump summarily discarded.

Such a noble thought!! Can't stop laughing!! Apple going to absorb cheaper production cost(Apple negotiates with their suppliers) and through hedging currency movements......but this so called absorbing is probably applicable only domestic market where iPhones rule, in other places there will not be any tariff!!! Win - Win .....

Too bad farmers don’t have the same insulation from tariffs.
Maybe Trump will declare another National Emergency and give Apple subsidies too, paid for outside of the oversight of congress — because that’s working for the farmers ... right?

Cause they know that people won't accept higher prices on the iPhone anymore
If the rumors about the 2019 iPhones are accurate, this is certainly NOT the year to bump up the price on iPhones. Most people (myself included) have a "good enough" iPhone so they don't feel compelled to upgrade to a marginally better iPhone this year. With more exciting upgrades coming in 2020, I think raising the prices on the 2019 iPhones would really tank their sales.

I am also cautiously optimistic that a trade deal will get worked out with China in the near future. It might not happen before the September launch of the 2019 iPhones but I think we will see one before the end of the year and the U.S. economy will be much better off with the new trade deal than we were before it.

America is so focused on "you must have a degree" and no one uses it to its potential and trades we have previously held are all being outsourced to other countries. The idea of bringing labor jobs back home isn't a bad one. And sending Apple products to be manufactured in other countries may sacrifice on quality. But make no mistake, Apple will still charge the lofty premium that Tim Apple likes to charge.

I hope the Mac Pro stays in the US, and hope that other devices come back too. This country needs to get back to its roots and stop outsourcing.

Case and point, I bought an Eero Mesh system. Do you know how great it is to speak quickly to someone stateside who isn't reading from a script and actually knows what they are talking about?! Might seem trivial, but how many of us get irritated when we call a company and get the run around or someone who doesn't understand fully the problem?

I'm all for supporting and bringing things back home. It's time we take care of ourselves as a nation and not the world.

The tariff wars and NOT going to stop anytime soon. The Chinese are not going to make any kind of a deal until they see what happens in November.

Is the tariff on wholesale pricing or retail?

Tariffs are on wholesale. Also I have not read the details, but if the tariffs apply to parts, final assembly in the US would not escape tariffs. And there is no way components will be manufactured in the US.

Apple could be "courageous" again and pass on the costs to consumers...
Given how 1000$ iPhones, expensive gimmicky touchbars were easily accepted, I have no doubt that these tariffs will also be absorbed by the consumers.

Are tariffs paid on the selling price or the cost price? If it is on the cost price, then it's a lot easier for Apple to absorb it.

I'd imagine it's on a products cost and not MSRP. Then you would have wildly varying amounts on what something is sold for or the manuf. would claim varying amounts. And when you incorporate re-sellers into the mix who sell it at a lower point, no manuf. is going to want to pay higher amounts for a product when it might be sold for less at say Best Buy.

I tried googling, but don't have the time to read a ton of articles

Apple should cut out the "FLUFF" spending and pass the saving on to the customer.
