I think iPhone Air needs to be seen in person (in store or in public by others/friends/family having one) and I think it'll gain traction.

This is a disruptive year for the status quo of iPhone upgrades. There is a third way this time and no, not like iPhone mini was.

I think this is the year a not insubstantial number realise the Pros are... just a bit too Pro for their needs. Which is great for the Pro model as Apple can continue making it powerful and beastly, at the expense of looks - as the Air can be the pretty prosumer model.

hopefully the Air bombs horribly, then Apple will finally realize the users want awesome battery and not some shmuck thin phone nobody asked for.
No. There are lots of people who are tired of carying around bricks. The fact you're not one of them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Also, nobody asked for an iPad, we got it and we love it. Nobody asked for MagSafe on the iPhone, we got it and we love it. That's because it's not always the consumer who comes with the ideas, the great ideas often come from other people who just have great ideas. If everything that exists had to come from people asking for it, we wouldn't have half the innovation we have ever had

I think this is the concept a lot can’t fathom.

Not everyone wants a thick phone with 2 day battery life and multiple DSLR-rivalling cameras.

Some want a premium, light, beautiful phone with a decent battery, good screen and a camera that takes nice photos.

And that’s what the Air is. It’s not trying to be a Pro model, but it’s also not an entry level handset either.

I wish there was a pro max without all those cameras… and I’d like to have a new design after buying the same design for 4-5 years. What I don’t like on the air is the smaller screen… bigger screen would allow for bigger battery as well 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is in between 17 Pro and Pro Max which some might say is the Goldilocks size.

I am not planning to replace my phone this year, as I am still using my 4-year old iPhone 13 Mini, and I plan to hang onto it as long as possible. However, if I were going to buy a new phone, I would at least look a the iPhone Air, and I will look at it in the store next weekend. Even though the Air's form factor is larger than the Mini, it has one big advantage to me, that I have not heard or read mentioned very often. That is, its light weight. It appears to be nearly the same weight as the old Mini iPhones. One of the things I liked about the Mini was its light weight, as well as its size. I had previously owned a regular sized iPhone XS, and even though I liked its screen size, the stainless steel frame made it feel like I was carrying a brick. The lightness of the 13 Mini was a revelation. It may be that the Air may be able to attract some stubborn Mini users, like myself. You could have the benefits of a very light weight device, while still using a larger screen. P.S. - One good camera is enough for me. I seldom even use the wide angle camera that is on my Mini.

iphone air has just way too many compromised to be desired. Yea, I know it's thin and light. The weight indeed is a plus for me. However, the thickness does nothing for me because the phone will always go into my pocket in my pants.... 3mm difference does nothing in my pocket. The only thing matter is when you are holding it and it's indeed lighter. But there are just way too much compromise for the reduction of weight.

I suspect a lot of people not choosing iphone air has the same judgement as mine. iphone mini was never a hit in terms of sales in the last 20 years.

The iPhone Air hasn’t been reviewed yet, let alone released.

Customer are smart enough now and days, to not throw darts at this until they see reviews or gets a hands on. I would love to get one, but I'll wait for the reviews first. Whats the rush to get one? Its not like they'll be sold out until December. This is a walk in the store and buy phone.

I feel the Qir might be the new Mini, poor sales, but a vocal minority complaining when it's cut from the range.
I owned iPhone Mini 12 and would love it if there was still a mini model. I’m also most likely to get the Air out of the 17 range. I find my 13 Pro is just too heavy and bulky to be comfortable.

Man I’d love an Air Mini, but that’s obviously never happening

You don't need a review to tell if you want iPhone Air. The main selling point is light weight and thin while having a lot of compromise. You don't even need to see any review because those compromise wouldn't justify the reduction of weight for a lot of people. Short battery life + missing wide angle lens is already a show stopper for me no matter how light weight or how thin the phone is.

The battery life (as shown not only by Apple, but by the EU’s independent legal tests) is, by every metric and testing type, as good or better than iPhone 16 Pro, and almost as good as Pro Max.

Not everyone cares about the wide angle lens. And many of those that do, care more about a thin, light, premium built phone.

🤷🏼‍♂️

Agree with the sentiment that people are on the fence and need to actually experience it/read proper reviews, thus less orders in at this time. I was torn between another pro max or the air. Went with the air as it was the fresh thing and the pro's just more of the same. Assume it'll be good enough for my use-case.

It's useful to see phones before you spend £1k/$1k on a device. The Pros and Air are new designs this year and I think many people will want to see and hold them first (particularly the Air as it's very different). I'm not sure why Apple doesn't at least display phones in their stores once announced so people can check them out before ordering. Sure, you can easily return items with Apple, but I would rather get the right phone first time than order one or more phones and have to do a return. (I know you can also wait until release day to check them out, but there's often then extended delays to receive the phones).

I like the look and idea of the Air, but not willing to give up the camera, battery life and other features. This time I'm switching to a 17 Pro after years of getting the Pro Max. I'm tired of the weight and size of the Pro Max model.
