If the Air has a 2nd ultra wide camera it can be priced at $100 higher but it will sell much better I think
Biggest issue with the Air is the single camera. I think most consumers could deal with the lower battery life, especially the vast majority of people who aren’t power users. But no one wants to make concessions on camera features in 2025.

2-3mm here and there is not worth it. 99.9% of people are gonna put a case and screen protector on it anyway lol.
I'm one of the 0.1% who don't wear a case. And my dad too.
We've already ordered our iPhone Air.

I totally agree it's stupid to buy an iPhone Air and put it in a case.
We pay more just for thinness, lightness and design… a case cancels out all three of these things.

the air is such a TERRIBLE value. They got rid of the Plus due to low sales and replaced it with a smaller screen, smaller battery, one speaker, one camera and no mmwave... all for $100 more. all a way to keep pushing pro sales, especially for Plus users who now have to go for the Pro Max if they don't wanna downsize. Base 17 an AMAZING value tho

I think what Apple is doing here with the iPhone Air and Pro series. Basically to an extent they demoted the iPhone pro ( only in the sense of luxury)series by adding a third product category ( The new design/luxury category) in which for this category you pay to have a luxury (Titanium) new design but miss out on all the bells and whistles which is only for the Pro category. In this way you have these three categories.

Budget: Having passed along bells and whistles for a fair price and having a repeated design of last year. However you save money.

Pro: Having the most powerful top performing iPhone with all the bells and whistles but with a rugged design (no longer with the premium materials) but getting what you paid for.

New Design/ luxury: The new cool design! The one that is hip! Jony Ive’s voice could still be heard introducing us this new iPhone! With premium materials (minus bells and whistles). Basically you are paying for being the first to have a futuristic design minus the goodies that the Pro has to offer.
I believe that the only reason the Air is Ti is because of the strength to weight ratio and nothing more. Aluminum, steel, nor titanium feel any different in the hand other than what they weigh. Aluminum is what the Pro is using because it handles heat better and they wanted to move away from the glass sandwich for the Pro.

Someone who uses a case with their phones would probably still do so regardless of model.

iPhone Air + case will be a lot thinner and lighter than iPhone Pro Max + case.

I really want the air. I have no problem with the single camera, single speaker, or battery life. The only problem is they released it simultaneously with a phone that finally has good thermals. I always get the Pro phones but have been sorely disappointed when taking photos outside on warm sunny days. The heat just builds up too quickly and throttles/dims too much. If this Pro lineup was just a spec bump from last year, I would be all over the form factor of the Air. Now that I have the option for truly decent thermals (if the reports I've heard are true), I have to go for it.

I will gladly pay price point above Pro Max for thinness + triple camera. I am very willing to lose Vapor chamber, stereo speakers, battery life...even non Pro A series will do.

The air is just a stepping stone into the foldable.

I think eventually the tech will make it so the avg iPhone is as thin as the Air, and the pros will be foldables

My least of the concerns of the Air is the battery life, it's plenty enough for a rational and healthy usage.
My concern is more the price, the weight, the mono speaker and the camera. Assuming that there will be a second version next year, maybe they can fix some of those things for the second generation.

Line line-up makes a lot of sense this year. The Standard iPhone looks amazing and it has all the newest features. It's the perfect iPhone for the most amount of people.

The Pro's this year are utilitarian workhouses that look a lot less flashy than in previous years and is aimed squarely for those who need higher specs.

I think the Air is meant for a more niche group and I do not think Apple really thought they would sell as many of those with lesser battery life. They are more hype models for the brand and they do look stunning. And they are getting a lot of the media attention as they were meant to.

One thing that stuck me in particular is that with the more utilitarian feel of the Pro Max, I did find it a little difficult to go from something as stunning as my 14 Pro Max which has not got a scratch without a case and looks just as amazing as they day I got, and go to a more scratch prone aluminum model that doesn't look anywhere as nice. But with a nice trade-in promotion I took the bait.

I wanted the Air based on looks & color, but I think long term I would miss the features it’s lacking over the thinness.
Chose Pro for cameras, vapor chamber, battery, speakers.
Optically, I like a lot about the Air; screen size, thickness, colors. Feels fresh. I imagine it definitely one of those once you hold you know scenarios. There’s just no way I could go from all the Pro line offers to an Air: too may trade offs I’m not (yet) at all willing to make. If I were a regular iPhone user, I’d be seriously tempted. But that $1k ppt feels a potential barrier. We’ll see.

The stat that stands out to me is the +60% YoY demand for 17 Max. That’s insane. I wonder how much of that is because the difference between 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max was so minimal that less peeps jumped on 16 Pro Max than 15 Pro Max. Anyway, I’m on iUP. This cycle marks the first time I’ve preordered a Max. I’ve long hovered, but always opted on the reg. My partner got a 15 Pro Max last year when she handed down her 13 to our 14 yo. So I’ve been able to see the Max in action. Interested to see what a year with a Max will yield? Come next year, will I stay Max? Will I go back to reg Pro? Will I be temped by the Phold? Forward ho!

I am not planning to replace my phone this year, as I am still using my 4-year old iPhone 13 Mini, and I plan to hang onto it as long as possible. However, if I were going to buy a new phone, I would at least look a the iPhone Air, and I will look at it in the store next weekend. Even though the Air's form factor is larger than the Mini, it has one big advantage to me, that I have not heard or read mentioned very often. That is, its light weight. It appears to be nearly the same weight as the old Mini iPhones. One of the things I liked about the Mini was its light weight, as well as its size. I had previously owned a regular sized iPhone XS, and even though I liked its screen size, the stainless steel frame made it feel like I was carrying a brick. The lightness of the 13 Mini was a revelation. It may be that the Air may be able to attract some stubborn Mini users, like myself. You could have the benefits of a very light weight device, while still using a larger screen. P.S. - One good camera is enough for me. I seldom even use the wide angle camera that is on my Mini.

I don't know where you are getting the info that it's lighter than a Mini. Apple says it's 5.82 oz on the Air and 4.97 oz on the 13 Mini. 15.7 % difference.

The 'Air' is going to be a rude awakening if you are a 13 Mini owner. There is no getting around the dimensions on a phone that is over 6" in height in your pocket. If you don't want to feel the phone like your current Mini you better bust out those JNCOs or get a fanny pack. The only modern option for Mini owners is the 16e as it is practically the same weight as the Air but the dimensions are smaller. This is my issue with the Air as its still a phone that the size is larger than a 16e and even a regular 17.

I hear ya!

The only reason that I even went with the Pro in years past was for the 120Hz display, the 5x zoom, and the fact that it was the more "premium" option. However, I found that I don't even use the 5x camera that often, and my use of the wide-angle camera is even rarer. I have access to a charger all day long at my desk and in my car, so the battery life isn't a concern.

For that reason, I chose the Air. But for those people who want longer endurance, better cameras, and all the other "Pro" perks, Apple actually listened. They made the phone thicker (like people were asking) and delivered insane battery life as a result. And they're using 48MP sensors for all cameras, which should prevent the quality mismatch compared to the primary sensor that we've seen in years past.

I'm happy for the Pro users, because they are getting a much nicer phone this time around. I don't feel the need to be negative about it.
Same here and for all of those exact reasons. I did buy the MagSafe battery just in case, but we’ll see how it goes. So far the 16 Pro battery has been mostly fine for me, and if the Air is rated for the same lasting power, I should be fine.

I agree with that. However the new design/ luxury category will be for the beta testers ( iPhone Air and the iPhone Fold) which the those interested can be the first to try the new design/concept but miss out on certain things that you can only get with the pro. This is really interesting because this goes to show that if my theory is correct the Pro will not disappear anytime soon however it will no longer be the luxury device but as a true pro device. Apple basically did away with the Standard= cheap Pro = expensive/ luxury

I wish there was a pro max without all those cameras… and I’d like to have a new design after buying the same design for 4-5 years. What I don’t like on the air is the smaller screen… bigger screen would allow for bigger battery as well 🤷🏻‍♂️

like an iphone air max?

Don’t know how many units Apple will be able to sell. I did not consider getting the Air as I would like to have a telephoto lens too. Also with the Air at $999, think many will pay the $100 extra and go for the Pro. Don’t find anything extra with the Air other than its slimness.

hopefully the Air bombs horribly, then Apple will finally realize the users want awesome battery and not some shmuck thin phone nobody asked for.
Personally, I want a small phone first. Had to give my 13 mini to my kid and got myself a 16. While the mini now feels tiny in comparison, the 16 still feels like a brick. Sure the battery of the mini is not as good, but that's a tradeoff I am willing to take. Unfortunately, the air doesn't have a smaller footprint, it's just slightly thinner.

i said that later in the thread. Everyone crying saying the Air is their savior and i’m some evil monster. The mini was the same for many other people.. I would have rather had a mini with better battery over a thinner large phone.

Yeah, so dumb that they didn't release a phone that is both thicker and heavier while using much lighter materials than last years 16 Pro Max...oh wait.

You don't want an air, don't buy it. But why are you complaining when Apple gave you exactly what you want?
