Apple will begin mass shipments of the second-generation HomePod mini in the second half of 2024, according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In his latest tweet sharing industry information, Kuo said Apple supplier Goertek has "secured NPI and assembly orders for the HomePod mini 2, which will start mass shipments in 2H24." NPI stands for New Production Introduction, which is a structured process for transforming a product idea into a complete end-product that can be fully reproduced.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is not actively working on a new version of the HomePod mini at this time, so Kuo's prediction comes as somewhat of a surprise. There are no obvious new features that are needed for the HomePod mini, and improvements to things like Siri and app integration can be made on the back end.

For his part, Gurman believes that Apple is working on "new speakers with screens and cameras," with Apple said to be developing HomePod models with a display and a camera to compete with the likes of Google's Nest Hub Max, Amazon's Echo Show, and Facebook's Portal. Whether this is the type of device Kuo is referring to when he says "HomePod mini 2" seems unlikely, but not impossible.

Regardless, Kuo clearly believes there is sufficient evidence to suggest that Apple plans to launch a new version of its smaller smart speaker, and by handing NPI and assembly responsibilities to Goertek, the supplier will be able to offset the negative impact caused by loss of orders due to production issues related to its AirPods Pro 2 production.

In the same series of tweets, Kuo also outlined his shipment schedule predictions for second-generation AirPods Max over-ear headphones and a new version of "low cost" AirPods.

In other news, Kuo said that HomePod Mini 2 will start production sometime in 2023.
in other news, Kuo said that there is no plans to release HomePod Mini 2

Kuo, has an excellent rate of predicting Apple Products.

I just read that there wasn’t any plans for a new HomePod mini:

I’m glad that the news has since changed. I would definitely like to see a new HomePod mini released later this year that could possibly include some of the features of the HomePod that just came out

Exactly. There will or will not be a HomePod mini 2.

These predictions are a waste of everyone’s time, and requesting specs for an Apple product, 3 times the price probably won’t be considered by Apple. But, yeah, it’d be nice.

somebody smart that gets it
KUO is on the bottom of the "leakers" now
From the most reliable and serious back in the 2018-2019 now to the bottom 3

Another scoop for Kuo. Supply chain leaks are almost always accurate.

Even without this news, anyone with common sense knows HomePod mini is a hit and is obvious Apple would refresh it, just a matter of when. I’m surprised that Gurman missed this. Or he did actually think HomePod mini would go more than 4 years without an update?

Sometimes you just gotta use your brain to filter the noise. Even iPod Touch was updated every couple years. Common sense tells you Apple ain’t gonna leave a new product category go stale. Gurman missed but he’s not tapped into the supply chain.

Second half of 2024 is not this year sadly.

maybe Gurman work of internal facts...while KUO is working on guesses
KUO contradict himself so many times and almost everybody here with common sense knows this already

We’re still an Alexa house because of Apple being late to the market, Alexas being reasonably priced, HomeKit being naff, and Siri being naff. I hope to move to a HomePod house at some point.

I really like my Echo Show. And if I didn’t see Alexa as temporary in my house I’d buy a few more and use them as intercoms. I’d love Apple to make a Show-type device.

They're always working on revisions/new versions of their products unless that product is destined to be discontinued.

You think they fired the entire Homepod Mini team or reassigned them to work on something else after they released the first version?

So Gurman is probably wrong here.

This is likely a minor revision and/or supplier change.

Luxshare and Goertek are specialized in designing acoustics. They co-designed AirPods for Apple. So it’s natural Gurman would be out of the loop for audio product news. Gurman gets the scoop on chips and software with his connections to Apple HQ. Kuo gets scoops on less complex stuff largely designed on the mainland.

If you look at the record, Kuo got HomePod news correct while Gurman was guessing a third HomePod model which never materialized.

Plenty of people here thrive on Kuo's prediction. Talking about how awesome his knowledge is because he has a look into the supply chain.

I, on the other hand (and probably many others here) think that Kuo just loves the attention. If he says something a week before an announcement, I’m more likely to believe it rather than something 18 months out.

He's no different to all the other leakers.

I want a HomePod pro/ultra , or a HomePod soundbar. I have a dedicated home cinema setup that I want to simplify , I know it won’t be the same quality and a downgrade, but I am prepared for a downgrade in exchange if ease of use. But 2 regular HomePods will be too much of a downgrade.

I hate the current gen. It is a crap speaker, to be honest. The size is such a limiter that I cannot fathom who would want this thing for anything else but an alarm clock. Sadly...
Huh? For the size it produces good Sound. Size, sound and its compact is why people like it not for answering google level questions

I don’t think there will be a HomePod mini 2 next year based on the update on the mini we just seen … but I believe there will be a new HomePod … either a battery powered or a soundbar that has the rumors have implied will integrate aTV and a screen
