I hate the current gen. It is a crap speaker, to be honest. The size is such a limiter that I cannot fathom who would want this thing for anything else but an alarm clock. Sadly...

I agree it is not perfect, but for its size it has a great sound. If it had the same automatic acoustic correction, it would have been better indeed.

Let's wait a while for HomePod mini 3 and HomePod 3 then... with 802.11ax I hope.

I don't see what else they can add to the mini, outside upgrading the chip when Apple no longer has S5 chips to stuff into them.

I've actually been debating buying another pair of yellow minis, just to spread them out around my computer room. While the minis lack the ability to create true surround sound, it would be cool to have one in every corner of the room playing music.

Yes, any future HomePods (mini or bigi) should definitively include Wi-Fi 6. The Wi-Fi 4 currently in HP2 and HPmini is not bandwidth-limited for HP purposes, but is inferior (compared to Wi-Fi 6) in terms of latency, power efficiency, and range. And obviously also future compatibility, given that most people who buy smart speakers expect them to last for many years.

Is HomePod mini 2 going to have worse sound like how HomePod 2 does?

TL;DW In a blind audio test they found HomePod 2 rating below the physically smaller Amazon Echo 4th gen for audio quality. Whereas in first place was HomePod 1st gen.

It's in my kitchen and in my bedroom. Don't need anything bigger there. And als can't fit and don't want anything bigger there. Now for my living room, two new big HomePods would be great, if I can get them at 500 - 600 Euros together anytime in the future.

Else what?😄 Apple does not care (they know they’ve got us locked-in), because this has been requested almost everyone.
If they want me to buy one, they need to activate bluetooth paring from anything and have an aux in. If they don't want be to buy one then I don't care. But I don't want to buy a speaker that is a huge paperweight as soon as apple decides its old and drops support, and I also want friends who don't have apple **** to be able to play music on it.

I don’t think there will be a HomePod mini 2 next year based on the update on the mini we just seen … but I believe there will be a new HomePod … either a battery powered or a soundbar that has the rumors have implied will integrate aTV and a screen
There very likely will be a new mini with a new processor. If you understood how manufacturing works, you'd know that the mini, using an older processor (S5), makes it more expensive than transitioning it to an S7 alongside the HomePod. Higher volume: cheaper manufacturing costs.

Space gray and blue likely to be discontinued and replaced with midnight. Hope the yellow and orange continue.
