New iPad models are unlikely to be introduced before the end of the year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today said.

Kuo did not provide any further information about Apple's upcoming tablets. While the next-generation iPad Pro models have consistently been rumored to launch in 2024 rather than this year, reports around refreshes of the iPad mini and iPad Air have been mixed.

Most recently, a reliable Weibo leaker said that the sixth-generation iPad Air should launch in October as the only iPad refresh of 2023, with "no mini and Pro this year." On the latest episode of The MacRumors Show podcast, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that there is a new iPad Air with improved specifications in the works and the device is apparently "coming soonish," likely in October. Given Kuo's latest statement, the launch of a new iPad Air in October now seems to be in doubt.

Last week, Kuo said that Apple likely no longer plans to release any new MacBook models with M3-series chips this year. All in all, following its "Wonderlust" event to unveil the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple's potential releases for the remainder of 2023 may be dwindling.

Like I said, I'm expecting new Air next year in the spring (March/April). If they release now Air with M2, they are sabotaging the Pro lineup a bit (yeah no 120Hz, but still). And from what we know M3 is not coming until 2024, because 3nm. yield issues (most are going into the production of A17).

I get the feeling there’s change in iPad strategy coming and the existing product pipeline has been scrapped. Sales are plummeting and being squeezed from large screen phones and laptops. It’s clear a change is needed.

The lineup really needs slimming down so maybe the Air will be retired after its current run and the iPad 10th gen will receive a laminated screen and proper pencil support as its replacement.

That will then leave the iPad Pro which will be pitched more as a laptop with a new, laptop like keyboard and better battery life.

I also think we’ll see some fairly major changes to iPadOS soon to enable at least the Pro to be more laptop like.

Strange because I would have thought adding an A15 chip and bumping the Bluetooth/WiFi versions would have been very easy (and the A15 is one of Apple's "put it in everything" chips). By my reckoning the iPad 10 will be the only device still on sale using the A14 chip after today if the iPhone 12 is retired as expected. Perhaps Apple isn't seeing the take up of the iPad 10 the expected (schools and budget buyers still going for the iPad 9)

He's just trolling, or lying at this point, if we're following the release calendar, It's an 18-month cycle for the Air and 12 months for the vanilla model, so the time is now to release new iPad's. He doesn't know what Apple and Tim do, he's just pretending.

Interesting. I didn't know that Kuo "outranked" Gurman.

I don't mind waiting but I'm really hoping for a good upgrade for the iPad mini next year. Keep the form factor the same (it is fantastic) but improve the screen significantly. Offer a better screen on the higher end model (that costs significantly more) if that's what it takes. That would be a great way to satisfy both the users who want a cheap small iPad for their kids and the users who want an iPad mini Pro, without having to introduce an entirely new product line (which the iPad really doesn't need).

Or at the very least, fix the jelly scrolling and throw in a 3nm processor and I will be happy.

I just think internally they are not seeing demand due to saturation and people keeping their iPads longer.

And the fact...to be perfectly honest, there's little reason to get non-vanilla iPads anymore since the ARM Macbooks are cheaper and better than the higher end models in every way due to how limited iPadOS is compared to macOS. Apple's let the iPad languish with lackluster updates and every iteration of iPadOS just getting leftovers of the previous year's iOS updates. It honestly feels like Apple doesn't know what to do with the iPad anymore.

They had the M1 in the Air and Pros for a while so I can see them M2ing the Air before the M3 Pros.

I want to know why for every single one of these posts they seem to imply that that only the Air, Pro and Mini are in the iPad lineup. When they say iPad lineup they only talk about these models, so is the iPad not included? Is the iPad an iPad?
