Thank you very much for this honest explanation.
Not sure how honest it was given there was only a flippant remark without details.
I think Apple is doing this on purpose and is counting on its loyal users.
Loyal users? Is that some generalized subtle insult to an unknown universe of people?
As for design and incremental upgrades each year, there isn’t much to get excited about.
Totally, in your opinion.
The design hasn’t changed since iPhone 12. The “faster” microprocessor does throttle under load and there are no benefits either.
I haven’t seen mine throttling under load, but the increased efficiency of the newer processors is always welcome.
Those meager 8 gb of RAM will not be enough for next year’s capabilities and so next years iPhone wil be the “fastest, best, most innovative” iPhone Apple has ever introduced (according to bean counting Timmy).
 I sort of agree that maybe base memory should be higher.
I’m wondering how well the iPhone 16 will sell, especially in China.
We’ll see. But I think the phone to wait for is the iPhone 17 pro max.

I see you have been busy disagreeing 😂😂😂

Last year when the iPhone 15 was about to be introduced we were all waiting for the 16 😅. Well… don’t get your hopes high and count on a price increase because the 16 is the most advanced, fastest, unparalleled design Apple has ever offered. And Timmy will be thrilled to tell you the details 😜

When the 17 is about to get introduced, the 18 might be the wonder we’re hoping for. Oh wait… just got a pm from mark gurman. It’s delayed for another year and the 18 might get a mighty 12 gb of RAM.

The new iPhones will need at least 12 gb of RAM to be useful for iOS 20 😂😂😂

And your point is a willing set of customers to throw their money at Tim. I know many get cognitive dissonance over that, but how does that relate to the iPhone 17 getting 12 gig?
Reread my post and you should infer my answer.

I love to see little women holding ProMax-size phones. It looks comical, they can barely hold the phone. A long leash and big anti-drop holder. OH yeah, and an oversized-sized handbag too. if the phones get any larger it gets worse for them Remember this rumors coming from Kuo So more likely than not you need to see it to believe it.

How does a phone need 12gb RAM (and will be lauded for it) yet a laptop doesn’t need any more than 8GB ram and those asking for it to be increased at the lower level are lambasted…

I’m not in the market for the max sized versions of phones. They just get too bulky.

Same here! I’ll keep using Macs and MacBooks but will change out the rest of my apple products to get rid of the iPhone. Ive replaced the HomePods with a Sonos soundbar system. I’ll replace the HomePods mini, iPads, AirPods Pro, Apple Watch, Apple TV, etc. eventually with non Apple products. And after that it will be back to android for the first time in over 10 years. It’s regrettable because the rest of the Apple products are actually pretty good. But the iPhone is just not offering sufficient innovation and value for my money.
Let us know how that goes. I mean it.

Apple's draw for me is its ecosystem; If competitors have matched the level of integration and ease that Apple provides for its ecosystem, while still using a Mac (and in my case, iPad) then I for real would love to know.

Before AI, 4-6GB of RAM was enough for a phone and 8GB was enough for med/light use of a laptop. With AI taking up several GB of RAM, we need to bump up the base. Of course you are never going to get everyone to agree and trying to convince people just stirs up the lambasting.

I find it incredibly annoying that MR releases/shares rumors about future iPhones before the next iPhone (in this case, 16) is released. Feels kind of disrespectful to the unreleased iPhone, IMHO.
Has taken the magic off iphone releases.. obviously leaks on purpose from Apple.. but honestly what value are people getting from leaks like "new volume button".. or "thicker glass".. so meaningless, just show me the phone and actually make a change that has some value to consider upgrading

Hearing this news swayed my enjoyment of my 16 Pro Max that I recently upgraded to. Wondering if I should just keep it until the iPhone 18 where they all have 12GB of RAM or just return it and downsize to the 16 Pro...

limiting ram to the bigger model is madness
Apple often first launches a new feature in the Pro Max phones, and then the next year brings it to the non-max phones. It’s a perk of people buying the most expensive model. It is unlikely to make a major difference for people with the other phones. At most, some operations will be a little faster on the max phones.

I know, right? I’m keeping my 3110 until iPhone 27 hits.

By the time the 12 GB phone hits Macs will have 16 GB base (maybe save for one “fleet” model, but I wouldn’t bet money on it).

I am one of those people “lambasting” those arguing the 8GB Macs shouldn’t exist, at least when their arguments are knee-jerk reactions which they usually are. But, even I will argue that this fall is the right time to go to 16GB base. I do want to note though that the idea that a Mac necessarily needs more RAM than a phone is false. I feel lack of RAM in my 4GB iPhone much more than in my 8GB Mac. When my Mac RAM is maxed, things happen slightly slower, which I usually don’t notice. When my iPhone RAM is maxed, things are reloading which is very noticeable. If you asked me to choose between 8 in one and 16 in the other, I’d take the 16 GB iPhone.

All the iPhones from iPhone 1 to iPhone 6s have the same maximum specifications, except storage capacities which were optional and not essential for performance. Meanwhile in 2024, without Steve Jobs leadership, you have to buy the most expensive iPhone model to get maximum specifications.

As models and overall volume increase, there is more room for companies to differentiate models to fit different users’ needs and budgets. It’s not unreasonable that devices with maximum specifications cost more than those with lesser specifications.

Back in the iPhone 1-6s days there was only one model of phone. The two sizes of the 6 and 6s were the first steps to expand the iPhone options. Had Steve lived he would absolutely expanded the models of phones and they would have had different specifications.

While it hurts that you’re jumping to Samsung, I totally understand you. Innovation is dead at Apple.

I hope more people will jump ship. Maybe it awakens Timmy to invest more in their products and have better offerings in the future.

So one day you’ll say goodbye to your fold and jump back to Apple.

I’m afraid for that to happen, Timmy has to go.

Why not? Even if you get better offerings from different brands? Is this the loyalty Timmy is counting on?

You also always buy the same brand of car? Just wondering🤔
Tommy is not going anywhere. Seems like the 16 is in the s cycle based on the rumors of the iPhone 17.
Ram determines what apps it can run and multitasking features. iPhones only run smoothly because apple overclocks their mobile cpus, leading to constant overheating and display dimming.
