OK, but Siri is an embarrassment and Apple needs to do something about it.

I hope that it will use LLM to create a language model with a very limited set of information to act as a Siri replacement.

I don't need Siri to explain nuclear physics to me like ChatGPT.

However, I do need it to reliably do what Apple advertises it to do.

And at the moment, it doesn't.

Yeah, great idea. You'll usually get a good answer, but every once in a while you'll get completely manufactured nonsense that sounds like it's correct, with no way for you to know its wrong. It's a bit like Russian Roulette, and everybody loves that game!

AI hype was in the spring.

It's already dying now.

Francois Chollet predicted the interest would die quickly because the claims being made were over the top.

We saw the result. Tons of AI spam all over social media. AI grifters lying through their teeth.

AI generated porn on unrelated hashtags. AI "photography" on unrelated hashtags. AI generated ******** articles with errors all over them.

Trolls farms paid by AI companies to threaten creatives that 'their jobs are going to die unless they subscribe monthly to this service'.

Untalented morons claiming to be 'artists' now because a machine spat out random images.

Unknowledgable morons claiming movies could be generated with prompts. Whole movies! 24 frames per second! In high definition 4K! This claims don't even understand how many GPUs would be needed, how much electricity would be consumed, and how many errors there would be.

And we thought NFT people were dumb, fake and corrupt. These people took it to another level.

Siri used to be fun. Wish AI would have a bit more sense of humor. Screenshot from May 2013.

Yet I use Siri everyday and it works great for me. Nothing to be embarrassed about. To assuage your frustration, consider contacting Apple for some help.

Take your time Apple, the tech industy's head long rush to monetize AI, with its flaws and dangers is something I'm fine with Apple figuring out how to best use it before doing so.

Not sure what insight a supply chain guy would have on this though (since it would be almost totally inside of Apple software - as opposed to where they make iPhone components).

Mainly because Apple’s AI services already exist. Unless the way they analyze pictures to crop is magic and not AI. I could be wrong. :)

I especially like how it works searching my large library of photographs I've made using the Finder. For example... if in the Finder I search for "beach," not only will it find all image files that have "beach" in the name of the file, but also finding files that have a "beach" in the image (and not in the file name).

Well, if it's powered by Siri, which it would be, Apple must be in crisis mode for letting Siri languish so much rather than trying to put effort into making it even remotely useful. This might just be Tim Cooks biggest failing is letting Siri get so far behind. I suppose the neural engine in their chips is designed to do AI computing so I would think that would be already built into the hardware at least?
This is stuff that makes the brand. Tom Cook has no understanding or appreciation for anything that does not produce $$$ this quarter.

What everyone misses is that Siri is little more than a series of badly-coded if statements. It barely qualifies as AI. The real AI work is in the apps and the chips, and that’s not the Samsung type of AI where using AI to “enhance” your picture means finding a better one on the internet and replacing it with that.

You mean useful AI? Unlike the AI images where they request you choose something that’s impossible Tto occur in the actual world, Cats dancing with sombrero's in a Baroque style.

I absolutely respect Apple 100% for not jumping on the generative-AI bandwagon.

I'm dreading the update for Windows Copilot. Just more half-baked feature-bloat chasing headlines instead of addressing fundamental issues in the OS. I'll use Copilot as much as I used Cortana -never!

May or May not be true, coz I dunno who Tom Cook is. Tim Cook has led Apple with some amazing products like the Apple Watch, which I’d rather not do without.

Edit. Top search for Tom Cook brings up the maker of He-Man and She-Ra, which we know to be amazing money spinners with high morale fortitude, so I guess you might be right.

The simple solution is for Apple to license Alexa.

Instead, Tim Cook has his company focusing on a headset that nobody wants, because he wants it to be his legacy....
Didn’t take long for this to become a Tim Cook bashing session. I’d guess the Vision Pro will be rather successful, basing on the change of attitudes since the announcement.

Good.

This (AI) is “Machine Learning” and “pivot to video” all over again. A useful technology overhyped and over promised by industry hucksters for a short term stock market frenzy. And of course, a threat of discipline to workers who got a semblance of their labor power during the pandemic.

Siri was great at first. For some reason it got worse, e.g. „Call Susi“ made the iPhone call Susi.
After an iOS Update „Call Susi“ started the answer „Can‘t find Susie in your contacts“ 😡

Now it works again, but a long time Siri was bugged and still is, e.g. Siri still can‘t tell the weather forecast and a second routine without stuttering when stopping the alarm clock (shortcuts).

I stopped using Siri at some point to avoid frustration.

Sometimes i wonder if there is beta testing on some services by Apple, or different management on some departments (e.g. good management at hardware design, bad at software testing?)

I know your pain

I only use Siri for "next, stop, volume and open app" and she fails when asking for apps

I honestly have zero issues with Siri. I use it every day for all sorts of things. Not discounting anyone else's experience but mine has been great.
