LaCie 4TB 2big Quadra Hard Drive eSATA/FW/USB

With the LaCie 4TB 2big Quadra Hard Drive can it be used as just 2 separate hard drives for example 1 for my iTunes and the other for Time machine backups? Sounds like they mirror each other? Would that we better than tim e machine?

The blurb here says "Configure as a RAID 0, RAID 1, mixed partition, or concatenated volume for customizable speed and protection".

Raid 1 & time machine would be the most reliable option but you'd only have 2TB disk.

Raid 0 + time machine would give you the most back-up space but be vulnerable to either disk failing.

Two separate disks + time machine is probably the best trade-off.
