Sooo...it's a basic hard drive. Shall we review designer staplers next? Why not just put a cheap hard drive behind your machine and for say $20, an actual mirror on your desk?

Why is "Gorilla Glass Enclosure" listed as a Pro at the end of this review? That's definitely a Con, as it means the enclosure is pretty easy to break compared to others. This would be like making your entire house out of glass and then saying that the fact it was made out of glass was, in and of itself, a pro.

ok ok ok

first understanding lacie is a division of a company with lacklustre Hard drives.

now the meat:
the video was stupid

lacie this is your 20th anniversary mac.

no thunderbolt 2 or 1

crappy usb 3 connector. Hate that thing. Its sooo f'n flimsy.

gorilla glass for no reason...at all (if you are going to make it "luxurious" then ad premium connections because vanity is not why I buy hard drives)

there is nothing good about this product... unless it costs under 25 dollars.

Mirror mirror on my desk, why did I buy this piece of crap? A mirror hard drive that doesn't actually mirror.

Actually, mirrors that reflect came first, and I can't see myself when I look at those 2-drive HDD or SSD storage units.

(snark off)#

LaCie products have never struck me as particularly good examples of industrial design. They always seem to have bent metal with some sharp edges and so on. PLUS, every time I've been in a bind and ended up buying a LaCie drive, it's ended up dead within a week to a month.

I've learned to steer clear of LaCie since it does nothing for me in terms of function or form.

LaCie is owned by Seagate, same gubbins on the inside.

LaCie Mirror Review: Hands-On With LaCie's Latest Designer Hard Drive

I had a Macbook with a hdd many moons ago and I have a TC with a hdd. Neither could be described as silent. What voodoo magic are you using?

I exaggerated. Because compared to the "most" silent Lacie HDD (D2) which I have today its day and night in noise level compared to the TIme Capsule and MyBook from Western Digital. And not in lacies favor

Let me just check, there is a Seagate drive in there? I could almost handle the price, given the novelty factor, but I like my data too much....

This is exactly what many people consider Macs to be; overpriced hardware in a shiny case.
I think we found the LaCie Mirror's target group.

So, it has a unique blend of hardware and software unlike any in the industry, wherein LaCie makes "the whole widget" in order to provide an integrated experience that the entire industry seeks to emulate?

It's just a hard disk. Macs, iPhones and iPads are more than just the hardware. And they're not four times the price.
For four times the price, it needs to be more than just a hard disk. But, it isn't.

Nice try, but... no.

(And every single LaCie I've ever had died a horrible, unrecoverable click-of-death. It could be a 4TB drive for the same price and I still wouldn't get it. I actually like my data.)

The stupidest thing ever.

And who buys 1TB externals anymore?

People who have no option other than slow broadband (1.1 megabits/sec) and are sensible enough to back up their Macs.

However this is a nonsense product. It is well over twice the price of my otherwise identical USB3 1TB Porsche/Lacie HD, which was actually the cheapest USB3 1TB small format drive from a known maker, I could buy. Nice profit margin for Seagate/Lacie from those idiots who actually buy the mirror drive.

Looks like someone in LaCie's marketing department believes that world economies are booming and that such luxury products will be in high demand.

Other than that, could be a nice Valentine's gift for the wife and to match her designer purse

/Double s :D

Fat32 is crazy - format Win/Mac use drives as ExFat - it's 2015

Why would LaCie need it's own program?
Use Disk Utility on Mac to format any drive - and format them as ExFat if for use between Windows and Mac.

Pro Tip : Format USB keys with ExFat for ease of file sharing between all computers - unless youre working with some REALLY old computers, it will work just fine.

$280 for a 1TB hard drive is very expensive, even by LaCie's "designer" hard drives standards.

I bought a 1TB LaCie Stark (also a designer hard drive with shiny metal) 4 years ago and it was only $120. I get that this is a 2.5" drive, but still, 2.5x the price 4 years later is pretty absurd. You're paying a $200 premium for the enclosure.

Lacie Porsche

Lacie Porsche.

If you love melting overpriced ill-ventilated metal-simulated plastic drive enclosures.

Lacie Porsche.

If you love losing a drive full of data.

Lacie Porsche.

If you love nearly burning your house down.

Obviously I won't be buying Lacie products again. Ever.

A "designer" hard drive...

Yeah I thought the same thing when I read this.

Why not? If you have to attach something to a beautifully designed Mac, it might as well be beautiful/cool looking, too! Do you remember the Porsche LaCie drives? Those were cool! Far better than a plain old, boring utilitarian drive... It's good to have options!

I would totally buy one if it were an SSD inside and not a slow as $#!+ 5400 or 7200 RPM spinning wheel of death.

It's 2015. The fact that Lacie (and others) are *still* making external drive this painfully slow is ludicrous.

I thought it was only me who thought Seagate drives where unreliable. All hard drive failures I’ve ever had have been Seagate.
