I have a non jailbroken iPod touch 4g running iOS 4.3.3 and it is amazingly laggy. I have tried closing apps in the app drawer, rebooting the device and restoring from a clean backup to no avail. Animations stutter and sometimes do not appear and it can be unresponsive. Any suggestions? Ps it also runs somewhat warm, I can feel it through my case by the cameras, should I be concerned?

if you are using almost all of the storage try deleting so stuff.

I should try that, but from what I've heard it's due to only having 256 megs of ram, I was wondering if there was anything else I could do that would remedy it. From the sounds of it, apple wouldn't do anything about it.

True, but I suppose there's a remote chance that something actually could be wrong with it, and if it's still under warranty there's no harm in them taking a look at it...

Well thanks for the suggestions, does anyone else have this problem?

Well if I do a full restore from scratch I'll lose all app data...

I have the exact same device you do, and have no problems with 'lagging'.

I have about 7-8 gigs free, but I don't think that's the issue.

In the settings, clear out the Safari cache and close out all the Safari windows; turn off as much as you can within the settings (I have done this and it helps a lot); do you have apps that run in the background? If so, disable those or delete them if you don't really need them.

Realize it's not much, but maybe it'll help a little.

Hmm if it is running hot than you should take it in to get looked at. It shouldn't be doing that.

You can also try doing a hard reboot to fix it or try reinstalling the iOS version.

None of which are working, someone else must have a 4g like this here, anyone?

has it always lagged since you've had it? or just started?

It could be a rogue app, try uninstalling the apps that you installed around the time of it started lagging.

if you dont know when it started lagging or it always has, try a restore as new, yes you will loose your app data, but if you took it into an apple store or called apple support then that is the first thing they would get you to do. (you can always restore it again from backup after you have restored to new)

no lag here, 1.0GB free
there's absolutely no reason why you should still be lagging after a restore from new device

My iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and iPad 2 all stutter with animations, although the iPad much less so. I've seen other peoples with the same issue so I don't see how others in this thread aren't seeing it.

It began with 4.3. After running the iOS 5 beta it looks to be mostly cleared up.

For those that don't see it, try to open a large game such as Infinity Blade. You'll notice the window won't zoom onto the screen but "pop" on instead.

The built in apps seem unaffected by this.

Game centre does that. Also, just wondering, but does iOS 5 eliminate lag on the 4G touch?

This has been happening since iOS 4.3 came out. Opening and closing animations lag. That's what people usually mean by "lag". It happens on both my iOS 4.3.3 devices. I doubt taking it to an Apple Store would fix it. Its an iOS issue.

I fixed it on my end by jailbreaking and deleting a certain line on a plist file. Now apps open smoothly. Apps still close laggy when the device is low on RAM but its better than nothing.

4GB left of 32? :O

Yes, bringing it to the Apple Store would definitely help because if it's as bad as you say it is, an Apple employee would notice that and atleast let you know what your options are or replace it if needed. Let them know you've tried many things to fix it and nothing worked. Also, if you do bring it in, restore to unjailbreak it or they won't help you.
