No>me<where
With most sincere apology to Thayer's "Casey At The Bat"

The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mini crowd that day
It's been five hundred eighty seven days they've had to wait
And when Yosemite was shown, iOS 8 proclaimed,
A sickly silence fell when no Mini announcement came.

A straggling few logged off to go search Craigslist in despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, if only Apple would but just tip their hardware hat -
We'd part with so much cash, right now, if they would just do that.

But first the UI got the stage, and then iOS 8,
And the former was quite smashing and the latter was just great;
But still upon the multitude grim melancholy sat,
For now there seemed but little chance the Mini would get phat.

Yosemite - the demo - earned the wonderment of all,
iOS 8 was not despised by any in the hall;
And when the demo didn't crash and great applause occurred,
There still was time enough for Cook to say the Mini word.

Then from 6,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through The Valley, spooked Microsoft and Dell;
It knocked around in Mountainview and where Moscone sat,
For WWDC still could let the Mini bat.

There is ease in its simplicity, its form is full of grace;
There is great pride and joy on every Mini user's face
And when, responding to the cheers, they stayed glued to the app,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt - they'd fill the Mini gap.

Twelve thousand eyes upon the stage - the Karaoke hurt,
Six thousand tongues laughed anyway - Tim Cook is such a flirt!
And though the streaming video streamed on without a blip,
There was as yet no dropping of "Mac Mini" from the lip.

We'll get a brand new Cloud (again) to put files in the air,
We'll upload all our purchases for family to share,
With Swift all our developmental work up will be sped,
Siri will do much better understanding what you said.

From the crowded hall of people there went up a muffled roar,
With pronouncement of enhancements coming to the Apple store.
Predictive keyboards will assist the hammy of the hand,
Mail Drop will help attachments make it into dial-up land.

With a smile of satisfaction new Safari tricks were shown,
iOS 8 will bid adieu to Steve's last swanky phone.
iMessage will get video to share with more than two,
And really, Beta Testing means the guinea pig is you.

"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered fraud;
Well, that's not exactly true - the crowd seemed more than awed.
If they would use their own Predictive Content search it's plain
Apple could not the Mini leave unrefreshed yet again.

The presentation nears its end, the time is getting late;
No hardware yet has been announced but still we gamely wait.
And now the cheering fills the hall, and echoes to and fro,
And now the screen is gleaming with a Retina-sharp glow.

Oh, somewhere in the Apple store as shelves refresh tonight,
There will be apps, accessories, and software to delight.
New laptops will ship 'round the globe, new iMacs? Sure, no doubt ...
But there is no joy in Macville here - the Mini was left out.
