I just found out that my mid-2009 13-inch MBP speakers sound terrible yesterday. But when I use my laptop headset, the sound quality is good. Any help?

Laptop speakers make crackling noise

Use the sound Preference Pane to see which one it is, left or right.
In audio systems if the signal is too strong the speakers gets damaged (crackling sound), this might be the case here although I doubt this.
If it doesn't go away and you still have warranty bring it in, or you could find speakers yourself on Ebay and DIY.
