here's how chipper positions. for those that don't know, chipper the name of my macbook.

1. on my desk.
2. lying down with chipper near one end of my bed, sometimes connected to a battery recharger.
3. sitting down, on my lap, sometimes with a pillow.

I've found that it's really hard to use notebooks like the clamshell in that position.

Your mini has snobbified you. :D What OS are you running on it, anyway?

I can't use it sitting up in bed because it hurts my back, and laying on the side, as one poster pointed out above, makes it really hard to type.

The mini is running 10.4.11. The clamshell is running 10.3.9.

There's your problem. Your assignment is to get OS 9 running on that sucker. Either that, or get more RAM. 160MB, yeesh! With OS 9, you get more screen real estate.

I normally have my macbook connected up to external speakers, keyboard and mouse with a 22inch widescreen monitor on my desk.

On the rare occasion it's not there, I'm using it in bed or the kitchen table.

Well in my new apartment I can only get wireless signal if I sit on the toilet, put the laptop next to the kitchen sink, or if I stack two pillows on my bed against a wall. All my options are VERY uncomfortable.

I use my macbook:

1. At the table with my adaptor plugged in (avoid that MB wireless dropout!).
2. At my desk with it plugged it.
3. On my bed with it on my chest, plugged in.
4. On the couch, not plugged in (rarely).

I use it for games and other battery-intensive activities, so it has to stay plugged in. It'll last for 4-5 hours on the internet, or long enough for a DVD, but games eat the power like no other. Video editing doesn't even seem to take much power.

Sitting well back on my comfy settee that is just the right size for me, with my laptop on my knee. I do nearly all my work like that. Just as well really, I can't find my desk any more!

Usually I would sit on my bed with MBP on lap and very occasionally I will use it at a desk ;)
