I live in an apartment behind my landlord's house, where the router is. My macbook gets a wifi signal (albeit a relatively weak one most of the time), but my iphone 3g gets no signal at all. So, is the wifi antenna in the iphone weaker than in the macbook, or are there some settings I can alter on the iphone to get it to pick up the network? Sorry if this is a newb question, but this is my first iphone. Thanks in advance.

Walk somewhere that the signal is very strong, like right up to the house. Try to set it up there.

Once you get it working, walk back, to your place, watching the signal.

What this will do, is it will let you know if it's a signal problem or something else. Lets say you have a menu setting wrong...you'll never know if you stay at home. By going out near the router, if it still doesn't work, you'll know to play around more with the settings instead of worrying about signal strength.

It's just a way to narrow down the problem.

    This is very common.

My laptop gets a signal where my iPhone won't. Yes, the laptop has better reception.

Maybe get an Airport Express and extend the signal?

I walked down to the house and it worked, but as I walked back it lost the signal. Oh well. I suppose it's not a huge deal: I have the macbook. I was just worried something might be wrong with it.

    Thanks for the replies!
