There is an 8 GB version of the CompactFlash card that contains the drive. I'd say it's possible, but it wouldn't be easy.
 
Very possible. Deffinatley not easy. You would need to have some serious experience to do something like that.

I've got a 1G mini with a dead harddrive if you'd like to buy something to "hack on" and see what you can learn. :) It looks as if it is possilbe to do, you just need to know how... no sense in breaking your mini trying to find out!
