    The back of beyond.
hmmm, I like the idea of a bigger iPad. I wonder if he knows what he is talking about or not though?

"The iPad will be pretty small to start with [makes hand gestures to the size of the current iPad] , but there will be more iPads…" He then goes on to list other Slate computing devices out there which makes the statement a little bit ambiguous. Interesting nonetheless.

My first reaction is "but it doesn't need to be any bigger...", but then again, I am a person who doesn't understand the point of a 17" laptop, so I'm probably not a good representative of the potential market.

By "There will be more ipads" he is simply refering to other tablet devices from other companies. To him, "ipad" has now become the generic term for tablet/slate PCs.

I think I'd prefer a 7.5" version, already concerned about portability.

I mean am I supposed to leave in in my car so I can use it on my lunch break. It wont fit in the glove box so now I need to hide it?

I'd might be tempted by a 32" iPad, but it would have to be 16:9 and have HDMI, therefore i'm more like to ride my iUnicorn to the Apple store than be able to buy one.

    Something like:

"The ipad is pretty small to start with. But there'll be more iPads... (stumbling) competitors... there'll even be more compet... there's competition coming from people like Samsung and LG, ... coming very quickly. HP in a matter of months... they'll all be coming out with readers."

If you watch it, he's clearly just talking about other "iPad" form devices as 4DThinker said above.

As I speculated on my blog, if there's anyone outside Apple who is likely to know, it's a guy like Murdoch. Also, he's exactly the kind of person who could speak out with impunity. I mean what's SJ going to do, put the biggest media kingpin on earth (sorry Sumner Redstone...) into the penalty box? I don't think so.

Yes to a degree, but I think Murdoch clearly sees a good business model with devices like the iPad and therefore wants to draw more attention to it's advantages.

I think it's highly probable that Apple will introduce in addition to the 10 inch, new 5.5 inch and 15 inch, or there about, iPads sometime during 2011 that, including the 15 inch, will be thinner than the current model.

I would like to see a 11 or 12" screen size tablet come out eventually. As I plan mainly on using this in the TV room to surf on the couch and watch video in bed and at work via the Sling app, a bit larger would be great. The other main use I have is a VNC client which a bit larger screen would just make using it that much easier for me.

Granted i find the current iPad's border to be a bit "thick" so even taking half of it away and adding a bit of overall area would be pretty sweet. I hope Apple ends up offering something a bit larger either way.

It's kind of an interesting question because the app store has locked Apple's screen sizes. If it makes a different size it will cause turmoil with all the apps. Scaling is all find and dandy, but you'll still end up with different apps sizes for different devices. People want the native size for their device when paying.

I'm sure Apple thought this through because the iPad actually isn't very big. The size seems a compromise in portability vs view-ability.

I don't doubt there will be other sizes of tablets coming out. Apple may even try. Yet I've played around with a slew of different sized handheld devices as I'm sure Apple has, and I predict the market will settle back to one optimum size that is big enough to be easy to read and still small and light enough to hold easily in one hand. The iPad is danged close right now, and I think many will be surpised how small it actually is.

Whatever happened to Slate computing and Tablet computing? iPad is already a generic term for tablet?

I do think he just meant others are coming up with bigger version, not necessarily apple alone.

He's just talking out of his ass. The ipad's size was chosen for a reason. It's jet big enough without being too big. They're not going to change the size of it, just the specs.

I already own an iPod touch, and I was under the assumption that what I'm buying on April 3rd was the Larder iPad,

so its going to get bigger?

(3.5" iPad mini, 9.7" iPad and 13.3" MaxiPad)
