As topic. What is the largest SSD I can swap out my standard 500GB with on a late 2013 MacBook Pro?

The late 2013 MBP is a retina that uses a SSD with a proprietary connector.

You can either purchase a larger oem Apple SSD or use a third-party nvme drive; however, using a nvme drive has its own pros and cons.

If you go with an OEM Apple SSD, the largest SSD possible would be the largest drive available in the early 2015 MBP. Drives from the late 2013 to early 2015 and interchangeable.

Ok, so I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 15 inch - love the machine a lot. Has anyone had sleep issues with any of the Samsung ssd drives. I was looking at the Aura x2 by OWC, but was told by many on here to avoid OWC - sleep issues maybe ?

The 2015 MacBooks are usually okay with sleep; however, the Samsung drives generates more heat that some other drives and use more battery power during idle and normal use.

Ok, that is good to know. So I guess I will go with the OWC SSD.

I personally would not get an owc. Although a Sintech adapter isn't needed with the owc, the owc can't be used in anything but another Mac. Get a nvme drive and a Sintech adapter. In the future, it can easily be re-purposed in another Windows laptop, desktop, or as an external.

Hibernation should work just fine in a 2015 with a third party NVME. I have one, no problems with wake from sleep at all.

Hibernation works with NVME in the 2015, but not the late 2013 macbook pros (and 2014). There is a bug in the 2013s firmware that has never been fixed that causes it to freeze when waking from hibernation. I mentioned this because the OP said they have a late 2013 macbook.

Yeah, I was actually responding to MacbookProDude. I should have been clearer.

Ok, so any NVMe drive will not cause deep sleep issues on the DG 2015 MB pro which you and I both have, right ? As soon as this epidemic is over and I am able to go back to work( furloughed since 4/6 with return date 3 weeks from that time, I will get the Samsung model.

If you go with the Samsung, you will get great read/write speeds but you'll probably notice more battery drain and more heat.
