I have a Brother DCP 7010, a combi machine with laser printer, copy machine and scanner. I didn´t expect it to be anything other than mediocre, since it´s not top of the line and made for home use, and because I´m generally sceptical to combis. But it´s worked perfectly since day one. I´ve been using it via USB because I´m too cheap to get the extra adaptor they sell for network use.

I´m really pleased with it.

Okay, one more question.

mad jew said to get as much ram a possible. The laser I got comes with 16MB of ram plus an upgrade dimm slot. What benefits should I see if I up the ram in the machine and also it allows for a 64 to 512 (ie, 64, 128, 256, 512) MB stick, which one would be appropriate, thanks :)

I'd recommend a Brother too, they're really great for the price and the ones I've used worked great with OS X.

It's also hard to get straight printouts, because the paper enters at a slight slant. Very annoying. It doesn't hold much paper in the output (or input) tray, so be prepared to use some desk space for an output tray.

Aha! So I'm not the only one. I bought a Samsung ML-1430 for a summer camp admin office as a donation, and all the prints came out crooked. I was so embarrassed that I took it back and bought them another printer, a Brother, to replace it.

Brother's Mac driver seems much nicer and more robust, too.

16MB should be fine unless you print large files from distant corners of a wireless network. :)

Hello Group,

I am new to laser printers to be used with Mac Leopard & have 2 questions for you :

I am considering purchasing a Samsung ML 2010 & I've read that no USB cable is provided with the printer. Is this important & how is the printer hooked up to the computer ?

Also do you think this is a good printer for spitting out invoices which will be fed to the printer 1 group (of 3 copies) at a time ?

Thanks in advance ...

I have the Samsung ML-2571N B&W laser and connect it via the network so both of my Macs and the PC can use it. It came with USB and Cat5e cables.

However, USB cables are very cheap (if you buy online) so even if it doesn't come with a cable, adding one would only be a few bucks.

GDL versus PCI brothers

Brother has two nice cheap (100.00) printers, the 2140 and the 2170.

However I am confused by the interface protocols they speak.

The 2140 is GDI and the 2170 is PCL6.

Any advantage/dissadvantage to either
