Both are in the refurb section. The last gen has 2 gig ram, 8800gs, current gen is a 2.93 with 4 gig ram at ddr3 and a gt120.

It seems the 2.93 would be the best bet because the ram advantage would offset the small difference in clock speed and weaker video card. It's mostly going to be used for picture and video editing.

It's a tough choice. Last gen is cheaper I think, but has weaker GPU and can only take 4Gb of RAM (6Gb unofficially). New one has slightly better GPU which is OpenCL supported and can take 8Gb of RAM. 8Gb of DDR3 is ridiculously priced at the moment, over 700$ so you won't be upgrading to 8Gb in near future. Difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is also very small, DDR3 will give you ~5% better performance than DDR2 does

last gen is about 100 bucks more. It seems like current gen should be a no brainer based on these comments.

I'd go with the last one and do the ram upgrade now. The price of DDR3 is not going to suddenly collapse.

You could always upgrade the RAM but your stuck with the graphics card. Go with the refurb unless you cam custom the 2.93 to include either the GT130 or the ATI card.
