So, I've read all the posts talking about Stainless Steel and the Space Black Stainless steel. However, my mind still cannot decide which one to get...... cost is not an issue right now, so I'm trying to consider the other factors.

    Stainless (Silver) Pros
    • Band compatibility
    • Nice "two-tone" finish with the black screen and silver case
    • May possibly fit more with any outfit?
    • Brighter, more noticeable (subjective)

    Cons
    • Scratches more easily?

    Space Black Stainless Pros
    • DLC Coating harder to scratch?
    • Unique color
    • More exclusive (subjective)?

    Cons
    • Color not perfectly black, so may seem off compared to screen
    • No actual review samples to see
    • Band incompatibility

Basically, the most I'm concerned about is the fear that the Space Black SS will look too "plasticky", as the photos I've seen for the SBSS have depicted a gray-ish look that may seem off-putting for me (when paired with the black of the screen), as opposed to a very high-contrast two-tone finish of the normal SS and black screen.

However, I've seen the Verge's photo of the underside with the scratches on the normal SS, so I didn't know if the SBSS would be much harder to scratch with the DLC coating.

    Any advice?

I had the same dilemma but ultimately decided to get the space black link bracelet and a secondary black sport band. Maybe I'll even get the classic buckle in the future.

So in the future I'll have all of these as possibilities:

I am in the exact same boat. My eye was first drawn to the SS black when the watches were all announced, but the price really put me off. But after weeks of looking through the models, I really do like the look of the black body most. It is the lack of band options that is really stumping me at this point. I think a few of the leather bands will look quite decent (blue and black most notably), and so I will likely pick up one or two of those after launch. Although I certainly don't have the funds to buy two watches, I am heavily considering preordering two watches - the black and any regular stainless that is available so that I will have time to go to the store and check them out first hand.

I'm really frustrated and a little puzzled apple isn't offering more compatible band options for the SGSS. Perhaps in the future?

For me at this point, it comes down to availability. In my order of preference:

    1. Stainless Steel w/Milanese Loop
    2. Stainless Steel Link Bracelet
    3. Space Black Stainless Steel.

I didn't even realize the SS came in a black until today . Still I'm going with the space gray Sport with black sport band because I'm in the gym 6 days a week. Would be NICE to leave my iPhone 6 plus in my small gym knapsack next to me. Always afraid the screen will break in my pocket. Actually not a big watch guy for daily use, but i bring out the big boy watches when i take the wife out. I have some 50mm plus diving & aviator watches in my collection

But man that Black SS is NICE, can't go wrong with that. Sometimes LESS flash is better. That black SS with that black metal band is a HEAVY HITTER for sure.

Quick off topic question. The extra bands will be compatible with the sport edition like the metal ones? As long as its the 42mm correct? Would be nice to "dress" the sport watch up a bit with a band when needed. I primarily am buying the sport for daily wearing and workout activities.

I say get the space black because it looks amazing.

And you still have 1,483 minutes to decide before pre-orders open up :D.

I'm with you, just hoping one of the two are available for launch day. Not feeling confident though.

I prefer the look of the Space Black too.
Initially the price scared me a bit, can afford it but worried about the DLC.

If I could be assured it is super scratch proof I'll go for it. Just don't want to find noticeable marks on it at that price.

Otherwise I'll go for the plain stainless steel as small scratches/marks won't stand out as much and can mostly be polished out.

I have a black Pulsar watch that has held up pretty well, so am leaning toward the black.

Rationally I should just buy the Sport this time around in light of the reviews. In all honesty though I'm thinking I'm going to go with Space Black. There's always the return policy if the shortcomings start bugging me, right?

These are my favourite watches the first one being my absolute favourite but there is a big difference in price. I realise that you can purchase the straps seperately but when you look at the price of the strap on its own, that's a lot of money for a stainless steel strap I don't care how well it's constructed. I will get the watch eventually but I think I might wait till there have been tested buy a few guinea pigs just to iron out any problems cos you just know there will be some smart arse that comes up with s security glitch or something such like. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1428613730.335856.jpg or this is the one I will probably buy ImageUploadedByTapatalk1428613747.225185.jpg . But I find this hard to justify ImageUploadedByTapatalk1428613779.722435.jpg . I have no doubt in my mind that the watch will be amazing & develop with time as more apps come on board. Probably no new iPhone this year though, I'm glad I bought iphone 6 plus last year & what a fantastic phone that is.

The black SS has always been my favorite but recently I've been bouncing back and forth between it and the regular SS with link bracelet. I think I probably will end up just going with my gut and getting the black SS.

The black SS looks amazing, but it is out of my price range.

I'm in the same position as you

I wish there were more in-the-wild photos of the space black. With the controlled lighting at the Apple events sometimes it looks deep black, sometimes it's much lighter....

I was leaning back and forth on the black one ... what it is going to come down to is stock. I will order the black one if it's available for the 24th, otherwise I will get the normal SS.

Unless they did some super crappy job putting the DLC finish on, it should be pretty durable. I can't imagine Apple doing a poor job with it.

Gah. I took a look at the "actual size" images of the Apple Watch on the Apple Store app and now I'm wondering if I should go 38mm. For some reason the 42mm Apple Watch seems a lot bigger than the 46mm or so Moto 360 that I used to wear. Thoughts?

I would never buy the black SS. It's way too expensive for a 1st gen device and all other bands do not match. Also, stainless steel matches all shirt sleeves.

If you have a big black watch it always catches attention.
If you like that, fine. I do not.

I would also not buy the milanese loop, it looks too thin.

A small part of me wants the regular SS now, only for the ability to get a Milanese loop. I REALLY wish that was available in black. Maybe later? Still 99.99% sure on the black SS
