My MacBook Pro is about 6 months old, and its a early 2008 model. On the wrist wrest thingy, there are little black dots concentrated in one area. I heard that it is caused by acids in you skin/sweat. I have previously read another thread about it, and it had pictures of a much, much worse case. What Im currently afraid of is that it will get progressively worse as it ages, and I would never be able to get it replaced. Here is a picture: Should I call Applecare about it, or just let it be?
if it started under normal use, it will get worse. give applecare a call or take it to your local service provider. They should be able to replace it. they replace stained white macbook top cases, i dont see why they can't replace pitted aluminum top cases.
All my powerbooks have gotten that eventually. One was exacerbated by wearing a watch while using it the other is just from wear. You're basically wearing off a protective layer on the aluminum and eventually the metal underneath discolors.
What is odd is that I never wear my watch while on the computer, because I dont want it to be damaged. I think its a little young to start getting things like this, or that might just be me.
Mine is WAY worse. Apparently it's a certain type of sweat acidity which wears away the alu body faster than others. I guess my sweat is particularly volitile...to the left of my trackpad, there's massive black pitting. Way more spots than I could even bother counting. Would AppleCare actually cover this?
my powerbook started getting that and it continued. It's some sort of corrosion or something. If you look really close you can see that the spots actually have some depth to them. Here are some pictures of my powerbook I got an invisible shield for my MBP to protect it from this sort of thing
Yea, I got that too on my 7 month old MBP. It's at the spot where i rest my left wrist. The spots kinda just started coming one day and more and more came in the following few weeks, but I think it's stopped for now. Oddly it only appears on the left palm rest, and not the right one. I'm pretty sure I have never dared to touch my MBP while I'm sweating though.
