hi all,

i have a Late 2011 15" MBP which has a weird keyboard problem.

the caps lock key needs to be pressed down kinda hard for it to register, but that's not a big deal. what's more of an issue is that the backspace key is really sensitive, and just resting my finger on it is enough to activate it, which is really annoying.

how can i fix this?

also don't bother with the "don't even try the gpu will fail" i have already disabled the dGPU. that's not a problem anymore :)

If the issue is that there's something wrong with the scissor mechanism that helps to support the key, you might be able to clean and/or realign it. Use a thin screwdriver or a thin stiff piece of metal to nudge up the keycap and pry it off. If there's dust and debris in there, clean it and see if that helps. You might also see that the scissor mechanism is separated in the middle and no longer articulates. If that's the case, you may be able to snap it back in place.

If stuff is snapped off or something else is wrong, there might not be anything you can do short of replacing the topcase.

You can also buy a used Apple Bluetooth keyboard on eBay and use it on top of your keyboard. The old model is hollow underneath so you can place it on top of your existing keyboard. That works pretty well.

I would suggest a new keyboard if these problems don't exist with an external keyboard and you are sure the keyboard connection to the logic board is fine.

From the sound of it, it seems like it's a mechanical issue not an electrical one. Inspecting the logic board would be overkill if it's a mechanical issue.
