Today I bought an AINEX HDE-13 NVME to USB 3.1 adapter.
I live in Japan and I suspect that this AINEX model is only available here but there are
other internationally available brands on the Internet.

Ainex HDE-13 cost ¥3,800 including Sales Tax.

I have installed a spare Samsung 970 EVO 250gb.

Blackmagic 4gb file transfer speed = 411mb / Sec.

The AINEX HDE-13 works as advertised and being so small doesn't crowd my desk.

I'm very happy with it as a backup disk for my installed Mojave 10.14.6 installed on an internal fast 480gb SSD.
I will change out the current Samsung 970 EVO for a 480gb Samsung 970 EVO.

This Ainex HDE-13 now allows me to set up automatic, quick, daily or weekly Mojave backups without taking up a lot of my already overcrowded desk space.

If you connect it to a Thunderbolt 3 dock, then you should get ≈800 MB/s since the Mac mini 2012 has Thunderbolt 1.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using the Thunderbolt port for a 2nd. 24" monitor.

I'm OK with the current 411mb/sec transfer speed as this 970 EVO is just a backup but much faster than a spinner HDD.
