Heard a super loud pop today....after some googling came across this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5717518?start=0&tstart=0

seems to be a problem others have had. A certain part or hinge inside just gives in and snaps/breaks.

Problem: obviously I'm out of warrenty, and didn't purchase Apple Care...is there still some convincing I could do to have Apple repair this FOC?

I paid well over $2500 for this, its still in mint/pristine condition, but this problem seems to be a design/manufacturing flaw.

would really appreciate any tips --- of if people had this problem, how they went about it.

Thanks

Yes, I would call Apple Support or if you can visit an Apple Store for this as it seems to be very common on the 2012 model.

Most likely, it's also probably why there is now two mechanisms with the 2013 model. One for people with hard drives and one for people without.
