Hi everyone and happy Memorial Day,

I recently bought my late 2012 Retina MacBook Pro in March, and I haven't had any issues with it until now. This has happened twice, and when I wake the MacBook from sleep, the page for me to type my password freezes and then the screen goes grey and says the computer has a problem and needs to restart, so it does. I have an error report right here: 6 KB (6,102 bytes)

Bold, seems to me USB/PCI is causing it, anything connected to it?

Hey,

Thanks for quick reply. I did have this CISCO VUSB open (forgot to close it-I subsequently have deleted it from my computer) when my rMBP was waking from sleep. I had to download it to try and connect my wireless printer, but now i don't need it anymore so I deleted it after your suggestion. hopefully this will help. :)

Ah, that might have been the problem, hopefully that solved it.

"com.silex.driver.sxuptp 1.10.0" is the cause.

If that was installed as part of that VUSB garbage, then uninstalling VUSB will indeed fix it.

apparently this same cisco VUSB programme caused this problem before, i found a similar case on the apple support forms. i thought i had completely removed the programme, but i didn't remove the .dmg file from when i downloaded it. hopefully this will fix it. :(

is there a way i can remove that using terminal if needed?

Bold, that one might be part of the problem as the above poster said.

Also, Open Terminal and paste the following command into it, this will show 3rd party Extensions, there will be standard ones even on a clean installation, I know which ones, if you paste it here I will tell you which one to remove and how:

kextfind -case-insensitive -not -bundle-id -substring 'com.apple.' -print
Hit enter

The "com.silex.driver.sxuptp" file is most likely in one or more of the following Folders, if so move it to the trash, you might have to input your password.

/Library/launchAgents
Or
/Library/launchDeamons

After you've moved it to the trash restart.

Edit: I tried to find the VUSB software, download it and see what will be installed but can't really find much.

I did find one last VUSB file in the Library folder, so I deleted that. Hopefully though I won't have to wipe clean my macbook and install everything again.

Also, I couldn't find the com.silex.driver.sxuptp in those folders.

Bold, there it is, it's an extension which almost sure messes up your System.

Now, do the following in Terminal:

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/SXUPTP.kext
Hit Enter
Enter Password
sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/SXUPTP.kext /
Hit Enter
Password if needed.

Wait 1 minute for the caches to rebuild then restart.

Should be solved now, if it is click on the SXUPTP.kext file which is at the root level of the HD now, remove to trash.

Edit: I just googled, it seems to be from Belkin, do you have a Belkin Hub.

No, I don't have a Belkin Hub. Dunno why it would be that, I have a Cisco Linksys router. I did what you said, and I didn't have to do everything. The computer just removed the extension after I entered my password. I was able to search for it in spotlight after that, and drag it to the trash and secure empty trash. I then rebooted. here is a new log of my extensions:

it seems that did the trick, and the extension is no longer there. thank goodness! hopefully this will stop the problem. Thank you so much for your help! you saved me from having to wipe my entire system. I appreciate it! If for some reason the problem is still happening, I will post again, but it shouldn't, i'm assuming. :)

No worries.
When I googled the name of the Extension it turned up with results from Belkin, maybe Cisco just uses that one instead of writing a new one.

Yeah, hopefully this was the problem.
