I stand by what I said.
You seem to want to ignore my evidence that the iMac 2013 runs quiet under sustained 100% CPU load.
p

i5 or i7 ???

70degC at sustained 100% load is better than any of the four Late 2013 imacs I tested in October (one i5 and 3 i7's). Max of 87degC on i5 was best... All i7's hit 90degC CPU around 70% load and ramped fans...

Again, just to complement what mossy is saying, I've only heard my fans kick in during BF4 in bootcamp, and I assume this is more due to 780M than the CPU.

It's an i7.

I don't know what is going on with the machines you tested.

What is the 100% CPU load you test with??

I use instances of this 2=25% load 4=50% etc... 8 should get you to 100% on an i7 - though most found 4 intances already had CPU temps in the 90's.
For 70% load I use ProTools and load up plugins...

Would you try this and tell us if you get the same answer?

When I was doing this testing it wasn't just me either...

I ran a render in C4D using all 8 Cores. You can see the result in an earlier post. A real-world example.

I was arguing a point earlier that someone made, that was basically saying that as soon as the iMac 2013 hits 100% CPU load while rendering in Cinema 4d, that the fans will kick in almost instantly. Absolute B.S. Gives a totally wrong impression to everyone reading and especially to potential buyers.

Yes. I hope I done this test correct:

Perfect !! First off thanks so much for taking the time to do this!

OK- At 4:20 on your imac you went to start the test, and at 4:21 you had 8 instances of "yes" running.... and you put up all the temps from istat - excellent.

Note at 4:21 CPU1 through CPU4 (the 4 real cores in an i7) are at 82degC to 88degC! That was within the first minute. Fan still at base 1200rpm

At 4:22 (within 2 minutes) they are 88degC to 93degC and your fan is at 1406rpm.

At 4:28 your CPU temps are very similar (89degC to 94degC0 and fan has increased to 1542rpm.

At 4:30 pretty much the same.

This is all exactly as I said it would be. I think you were looking at the CPU proximity sensor not the actual CPU temps (or some average of all the internal temps). Within 2 minutes your fan is above the base level but actually running as low as any I tested.

Thanks Once again - all the info you supplied was very clear and helped get us quickly to a place where we can talk about the same measurement.

Now this IS an artificial test for 90% of real world uses. I do pro audio and can go to 70% CPU load without raising the fan above base 1200rpm. But rendering (like handbrake) will use the full 100%. Under that load the fans will raise above base within one to 2 minutes on an i7 - an i5 - maybe not - but in my experience on late 2013 i7's - absolutely. Now is it screaming loud or obnoxious - NO - the mac mini fan is 1000 times more annoying. But I work in a recording studio - the imac is one of two fans in the whole room and we don't like either one :) But at Base fan speed the imac is darned quiet and not a problem.

No probs. Your welcome. Glad I carried it out correctly. Learn something new everyday:).

I just wanted to drive home the point - that the iMac 2013(i7) does not go bananas (the fans) when rendering in Cinema 4D. I'm just giving an honest opinion to anyone doing research here.

I don't live in C4D. I use it at the end of my pipeline to visualise my branding/packaging projects. It's a fantastic machine for that kinda stuff. And with the distributed rendering available now (especially for still/single images), I can hold onto it for longer. Renders can be distributed across spare computers/nodes (such as a mac mini), so the more the merrier:).

Cool ---

I too agree and voted with my wallet!

Late 2013 i7 is an excellent machine...

I'm glad you're the only one giving honest opinions here.
Praise The Lord

Even the stats you provide paint a different picture but whatever helps you sleep at night I guess.
What drives me off the wall though is your persistence that you're right even though everyone and everything else show the exact opposite. Not to mention the insane amount of inconsistencies and inaccuracies in your posts in this thread. Your opinions and arguments change like the wind.
Yet you think everyone else is BSing you. Now that's incredible!

Anyway wasted a lot of time for no reason. This is my last reply to you. You can post anything you want now and I won't say anything. Go nuts!
