Hey guys,

Kind of a strange question...

My gf's logic board is dead on her 2015 15" MBP, yay. It's an iGPU base model. I have a 2015 15" MBP with (m370X) with a cracked screen and dented screen top, just handing out in my closet. Her 2015 also just recently got repaired by Apple with a new screen, top case and battery.

To my question... could I swap the functional logic board from my 2015 to my gf's 2015? They're the same year, only variance is that my logic board had the dedicated GPU while hers did not. I'd be moving my heatsink into her chassis as well since the dGPU heatsink is slightly different.

(I did try to search but didn't really find anything, apologies if this has been posted before)

Thanks!

Why not swap her upper display assembly to your lower MB body? Seems that way you guarantee no logic board issues.

To be honest, I considered that, but she has a new battery from Apple (and swapping batteries is frustrating with all of the adhesive) and her keyboard has way less wear as it was replaced during her Apple service order. :\

Gotcha. I would look at iFixit guide and look for differences between the two especially regarding the heat sink/pipes.

When was the battery replaced? Is the Mac still under warranty?
Don’t you get a 90day warranty after service on the Mac? Could you possibly take it to the Apple store?

As for swapping the boards, there should be no problems as long as you keep the heat sink with each logic board as they are different with dgpu and without. I‘ve swapped logic boards between two 2015 15” models, one was a 2.8/igpu only model and the other was a 2.5/m370x model. In my case the reason for the swap was because they had different keyboard layouts.(one was US and the other JIS)

Battery was replaced about four months ago ironically. She called Apple and they denied her. She went to an Apple store locally, same thing after they spoke to an Advisor.

That's fantastic news nonetheless. Puts me at ease. Guess I'm just in a holding pattern until my iFixit kit arrives and we'll get after it. I'll probably make a "poor mans iFixit imgur album" for this swap for the next guy trying the same thing haha.

Thanks all, deeply appreciated :)

Just wanted to report that this was indeed a success. Swapped logic boards following the iFixit guide. Went from a iGPU based board to a dGPU based board.

Swap took about an hour.

Thanks all around guys 👍
