Using a 6,1 and still have my 5,1, which I haven't booted in a while. It started freezing and becoming unresponsive after Big Sur. Sonoma was a freezefest. It might be a backboard issue as the front USB ports are now dead. At some stage I might dive in and pull it apart to see if a capacitor has gone or a chip burnt out. Right now, quite happy with the 6,1 save for the fragile ports on the back. You don't want to knock any of the TB cables.

Currently own an M1 Ultra but it sees little use. I voted 5,1 as that is the Mac which sees the most use.
I would have loved it to switch to the mighty 7.1. And I love the design. I love the design of the whole MP series including the 6.1 as well. These are just genius designed pieces of industrial design & art. If I ever end up with lots of money, I would rather showcase a 7.1 besides a model jet engine instead of a Picasso. but that's just me.This is a great setup, and glad to see its been working so well for 8 years. Are you sure this uses less power than a 7.1 though? Depends on the configuration you're comparing, I guess
When it comes to power draw, the 7.1 has a 1400 Watt PSU. My decision against it was also a disciplinary one to avoid wasting too much time playing AAA games. In the past, to work on a Mac was a great tool to Not playing games, because there where no games on Mac. A fully equipped 7.1 with an AMD 6900XT would be like a digital drug for me just do derail my situation even more. Of course you are correct, the delta between the 5.1 and 7.1 in power draw is not so great. I am contemplating to switch to a Mac mini M4 and to finally print my own Mac Pro casing to keep the Pro illusion alive if I ever get my unfinished Prusa off the ground. But it's real hard to say goodby to such a good computer companion after such a long time of flawless usage. I guess I am more of an industrial design enthusiast than a real Pro User from an Apple point of view. What do you think about this case down below? I figure, this could be made into a real gem with real stainless steel add ons.

I have a fully equipped one with a W6800X 32GB and I can say Flight Sim 2020 in Windows 11 for Workstations with Navigraph subscription and the addon Airbus A380-842 (FlyByWire Sim) is amazing.
The only drama is that Reverb G2 headset and 2 5K screens all running at once is too much for Flight Sim and it locks up. Disconnect one screen and all is good.
Although the W6800 is less powerful than a 4090 RTX, I don’t get out of memory errors with that, there is 32Gb VRAM.
If you use the VR headset with the A380, you could well be flying the real thing, it looks and sounds that realistic. The simulated plane is an 842 with the RR Trent 972 engines - these fly over my house daily and I can say the sound is exact. Same as for inside. And the systems work the same as in real life. So immersive.
Then I swap back to macOS and that’s my serious work computer.
The other 7,1 is the monster - it is amazing how fast it is for the tasks I use it for.

Yap, I totally understand this love to aerospace and flight simulator. I used to have a private pilot license myself for Cessna 172 & Piper 28. It's always nice to remember those past, golden times. Unfortunately I have a slight vision error, so I could not proceed to higher grade licenses. My MP 3,1 has been sitting offline since about this time last year. Have decided to upgrade to the oldest currently supported OS, and then put it to work consolidating / backing up my various external drives, as well as my iTunes, Apple Music, Apple TV media.
Running Ventura now, a few items started working again (audio output devices), and typing on this now on MR, I am amazed that this computer can handle modern workloads totally fine, and run with relatively low issues.
Remember the 3,1 came out during the era of the first iPhone, and ran through the 3G period. You can't browse modern websites with those devices, and 2G / 3G cellular is mostly dead. With patching, the 3,1 still works in the modern world and that is dang impressive to me!
