My point is that you're not going to change the fact that the US market has basically decided on chip and signature as the "standard"
America is supposed to be "great" because we're supposed to have a say in the way our government operates. So what do we have? Politicians that only "recommend" chip and pin... Not a government that tells the banks they have to issue the cards. Writing a letter to my local congressman would only be a waste of time. Our government doesn't have the balls to tell big businesses what to do... They're like a scrawny nerd who gets pushed around by a bully 24/7. That's why these businesses are able to bribe politicians with money and keep a lot of their profits in banks overseas.
I hope America wakes up someday and realizes how they're inferior to every other first world country, when they used to be the leader.
Or that some stores will probably only upgrade once their current machines break and not a second sooner.
Guess I'll have to go to those stores, disconnect the machine and chuck it at the wall so it breaks.
You can decide to get a chip and PIN card though
Just like with contactless, only like three banks in the entire fragmented, huge banking market in America has chip and pin enabled cards. I think Santander is one of them.
and can decide to spend your money at the places that have upgraded already
Well there's a slight problem with that. My local Subway, Arby's, Walmart, etc. all accept chip... But here's the catch, they don't account for every area of spending. Not a single car maintenance shop, doctor's office, REAL restaurant, gas station, or grocery store accepts EMV or NFC (with the exception of Subway and Wegmans, Wegmans being NFC only right now).
