Anyone know what the latest firmware version is for AirPods? I’m seeing 3.7.2 today (11 Nov 2017).

I presume that’s the latest but it’s tricky to be sure...

ETA: argh, cannot fix thread title. Can a Mod help, please?

Are we supposed to update the AirPods too or it is done automatically? I have them since August and don’t recall any software/firmware update.

I'd say it's fairly automatic - you might be able to force it but it's not just out there to find

That’s the latest version.

To check, open the AirPods case, and then on your iPhone General > About scroll to the bottom of the page and you should see an entry for AirPods with details of firmware version.

Thanks, looks like I’m on the latest version at the moment, then.

I think I forced it one time but it has subsequently updated automatically.

Could be wrong, but they may only update when in the charger & whilst the charger's plugged into a power point.

It handles processing within the ‘pods themselves, so presumably the W1 chip, handling of the accelerometers and so on.

The reason I was asking was the iPhone X has Bluetooth 5.0 and the speculation was that the W1 chip was forwards compatible to this standard. I was wondering if the release of the X might trigger an update to enable this.
