With the sixth beta of iOS 18.1 and the fourth beta of watchOS 11.1, Apple has finally added support for sleep apnea on iPhones that have been running the iOS 18.1 beta since before the Apple Watch Series 10 launched.

Sleep apnea alerts were introduced with iOS 18 and watchOS 11 on the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2, but those running iOS 18.1 and watchOS 11.1 never got the iOS 18 and watchOS 11 updates that added the feature, which means it has been missing for many beta testers until now.

If you've been running the iOS 18.1 and watchOS 11.1 betas and haven't been able to use the sleep apnea alert feature, it will be available after updating. Note that this is only relevant to people who did not previously have sleep apnea available in the beta.

After updating, you will need to set up sleep apnea notifications, which can be done in the Health app. You will need to answer questions about your age and whether you've previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea in order to turn the feature on.

Before you receive a sleep apnea notification if you have the feature, the Apple Watch will need to collect 10 days of Breathing Disturbance data.

I’m running iOS18.0.1 and have breathing disturbance already!? Also, it says sleep apnea notifications are turned on already. Plus when I installed iOS 18 I had to answer the questions about sleep apnea too. I’m not sure this article is correct.

EDIT: Apologies, I didn’t realise it wasn’t in the beta software! My bad.

I was it is already there in iOS 18 and I was happy that I didn't get an alert yet.

Let's hope Swift Charts will work when compiling in Xcode...
The release notes say it's still a Known Issue, but then again they say it's for Beta 5.

After updating, still says 'not available in your region' on the 16 pro / series 10 / Canada

This does or does not require an Apple Watch? If so which version? If not does it work on iphone only? Where does the phone need to be relative to you? Who sleeps with an Apple Watch on? Please explain more in the article - it’s very much not obvious. Just reading the headline, it implies no watch is required…

This has a lot of info, but yes, it needs a watch. It was in 18, but not the 18.1 betas until now:

Just updated to the latest beta and while Sleep Apnea displays at the bottom of the Health Checklist page, it says it's unavailable in my region (I'm in the USA). Tried resetting and unpairing/re-pairing my watch, and resetting my phone, but no dice. Not sure what the issue is.
