I've been searching the forum and most of the posts about this are old and involve older versions of iOS. I just got a 15 and set the battery charging option to the 80% limit setting. The last two nights it went to 100%. I understand occasionally it will do this for calibration purposes, but seems odd that it just keeps charging to 100%. And two times earlier this week I took the phone off the charger before it got to 100%, but it was still over 80% (like 83 and 85 when I noticed). I am on the latest version of iOS. Is this still an issue for some people? If so, is there a fix? I will see what happens tonight, but it just doesn't seem to be working as intended.

Well optimized battery charging hasn't worked properly since it was released so it wouldn't surprise me at all that the 80% limit has bugs for some users. In my case 80% limit has worked reliably since it became available. It occasionally will charge to 100% but I have a shortcut that will alert me when it gets to 85% so If I'm near the phone I'll just take it off the charger

Thank you both. Good to know. Last night it finally seemed content to stay around 80% for a good long while before I removed it from the charger. Will just let it do its thing and not worry about it. Just replaced a 12 mini that was three years old, and though the battery health got down to 79%, it didn’t cause me too many issues even with the smaller battery.

Seems to me a possible solution, for the days ahead, are chargers that do the controlling. Once the phone is set on it, it reads a calculated setting point, set by the user, thens shuts down. That's an engineering task

Good idea! Never considered that. Surprised frankly now that you mention it that this hasn’t been done yet (that I am aware of).

My iPhone 15PM does charge to 80% (unless it’s for calibration purposes, as above) but weirdly my Series 9 has rarely just charged to 80% with optimisation charging on 🤔

I have had my 15 PM since 19 January yet despite having left it on "optimized charge" as well as significant locations (actually inherited from my 13 PM backup) it still charges every night to 100%.

I have the 15P since 19 January like yours, mine also still charging to 100, optimized charging still does not work...

Yea still not working properly might make an appointment with Apple. I think it might be a software (iOS) issue.

Thanks to feature rationing for those who have the temerity not to buy the newest phone, this isn’t available to me. And optimised charging is hopeless.

I thus made an automation to audibly tell me when my phone hits 80%. No good if you’re asleep but it works well for me 👍

I think that means limit to 80 when topping up?

If you want to limit your charge to 80 you have to pull the plug. That would be dumb.

Really.

When I charge my Li-Po's for my R/C, I do not charge to 80%, I charge to 100 and run down to 20, so the battery will have enough power to make it safely back to me without dropping the voltage too low.

"With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates."

That’s for optimized charging. I have 80% limit enabled and I believe one time since I enabled 80% it charged to 85%. Normally the phone can keep 80% for hours.

Its not what Apple states on their webpage on the iPhone 15.

"

About 80% Limit with iPhone 15 models

With iPhone 15 models, you can choose between Optimized Battery Charging, 80% Limit, and None.

When you choose 80% Limit, your iPhone will charge up to about 80 percent and then stop charging. If the battery charge level gets down to 75 percent, charging will resume until your battery charge level reaches about 80 percent again.

With 80% Limit enabled, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

Do you mean the phone charges to 100% overnight, or that it is at 100% every morning when you wake up? If it's the latter, the it is working as intended.

Optimised charging is supposed to give you a 100% charge, but it charges to 80% overnight and then times it so the last 20% of charge is added so it reaches 100% at the time it thinks you will disconnect the phone from the mains (i.e. optimised charging charges to 100%, but tries to minimise the time the phone sits at 100%). Obviously, optimised charging relies on you having set routines.

I know, the times I have woken up prior to my alarm going off (ie. bathroom break ;)) the phone had charged straight through to 100%. I have the same routines as I had with my 13 PM where it seemed to work better.

I'm keeping an eye on this - got mine yesterday & set it to 80%. So far it's been good. Last night had it on charge & it was 80% this morning. About to go to sleep & will check it in morning..

Morning!

Yep, stayed at 80% overnight whilst on a third party wireless charger…

I found if you interrupt your charging habits by just a few hours, it will go back to 100% for a few days before going back to 80% charging.
