After a fresh Mojave Patcher install and patch update my Safari version is 12.1.2 on macOS Extended (Journaled). I am on Mojave 10.14.6. How do I get the latest Safari version without going through System Updates through System Preferences? dosdude1 said on the Mojave Patcher page that:

  • Using APFS is REQUIRED in Mojave in order to receive system updates via the normal Software Update method. If you choose to continue using macOS Extended (Journaled) as your filesystem type, you will NOT receive System Updates via System Preferences.

Bad form to start a new thread when there's already a thread all about patching Mojave on unsupported systems.

In that thread you'll find a series of posts about non-APFS system update patching, starting here;

Safari isn't a "system" update, so I think it can be updated through System Preferences. However, I use the command line in an Applications>Utilities>Terminal window instead. A list of updates can be found with the command:

softwareupdate -l --include-config-data

(The "include-config-data" parameter is to include malware definition updates.)

To actually update, the command is:

softwareupdate -ia --include-config-data

(NB: You may need to update to the latest system security update to be able to update to the latest Safari.)

SilentKnight will update Safari when an update is available whether APFS or HFS+. ?
