I got a launch day iPhone 4S and from today the home button has randomly started to creak when pressed. All my presses are getting registered correctly so far. But this was the exact symptom when the home button of my previous iPhone 4 button became temperamental.

I just cannot believe that Apple continues to ignore the no. 1 return reason for iPhones so far.

I heard that Apple have slightly changed the way button is attached to the phone, but I can attest to the fact that it has done absolutely nothing to fix the issue.

I will continue to believe the home button is behaving normally after trying to blow compressed air through it. Hope the next iPhone Siriously has capacitive button. :(

The Home button of my iPad 1 purchased early last year is still working as new even after the battering it got for almost 2 years.

How do you know its number 1? I never see that issue. I'm not in Apple retail but I am around a lot of returns/MFGR repairs...

I can live with that just I fear that the button will go bad soon.

With the addition of multifinger gestures the home button gets very little use.

If the home button seems bad to you, take it to Apple and ask for it to be replaced.

On the iPad, there's no fear of Home button flakiness.
On the iPhone though, there's no such luxury. :/

If the home button seems bad to you, take it to Apple and ask for it to be replaced. This is the third time I have made this recommendation.

Yes, you're very clever :D but it shouldn't get to the point where it needs replacing, when a relatively simple software solution, that is more intuitive than the current hardware option, would suffice.

Mine does this as well. I was annoyed that this wasnt taken care of. As long as my home button remains to function properly then I'll be fine.

I had this problem with my new 4s. I cleaned it out with a qtip and some monster cable screen cleaner really good. The problem hasn't happened since then. If it does I will take to apple. But, I also have applecare+. But, in the first year I know they would take care of it regardless.

i dont agree that it is useless. i understand there are gestures but the screen is just too small for those IMO.

I think he mean he wishes the front of the phone was all Screen, instead of looking at the wasted space.

I'm personally a fan of capacitive buttons. Transition to a capacitive home button, and use more of the front real estate for a screen.

Ah, okay. I'm not opposed to a capacitive button.

Don't capacitive buttons get pressed while swiping? I had that problem with my Samsung Omnia 7.

BTW I was on holiday in London and purchased the phone there. Now I'm back in Mumbai where Apple stores don't exist. :(

They can, if manufacturers are judicious about their front spacing, and placement of capacitive buttons, then it shouldn't be an issue.

I've come from the android side where the buttons on the front were capacitive (depending on manufacturer really), and I never had an issue with swiping the buttons.

You get used to them being there. I hope my home button doesn't wear out on my 4s. I use it like a boss!
