I get an error when trying to connect to the built-in FTP server on my Powerbook. I am running 10.4.2. See below:

jwray2:/usr Todd$ ftp 10.2.90.47
Connected to 10.2.90.47.
launchproxy[728]: execv(): No such file or directory

I can ssh into my PB just fine. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Could it be a permissions issue? I recently modified the permissions of my home directory so that a user that connects to my PB (ftp/ssh) using the guest account cannot read/write/execute my files. I don't think it is a permissions issue but more of a problem with launchd finding the ftp app. Only other thing I can think of is that I installed One Button FTP client, but don't see how that could have screwed this up.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks-
Todd

Take a look at /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist and post it here. It should have a value pointing at the binary for ftpd, and then I would suggest that you try to launch that manually using Terminal to see if its having problems.
