Does anyone know if Apple has any plans of lowering the prices of their LCDs (at least the lower, 15 and 17 inch models), in the near future? One of the main issues for me right now (taking into account the lack of money) is to build a nice desktop system with an lcd monitor staying below the 2000 dollar mark, even with the education discounts...

or are they going to do the same thing they did with the ipod: release bigger displays and keep the same prices for the existing products?

i feel you dude, that is exactly what i want. Hopefully apple will realize all the potential profit they would get. lets all hope...

I'm not expecting any price drops from Apple's LCDs anytime soon.

The price increases on the iMac are due, in part, to rising prices on LCD panels. The industry right now is seeing demand catch up to, and even surpass, supply.

If you're going to buy, there's no sense in waiting...prices could even go up!

Oh thats true, i forgot about the 100 dollar increase in the imac.......but i thought that apple was buying the lcd screens all from these Taiwanese suppliers for a better price (i dont really remember in which article i read this, but i'm pretty sure i saw it) for like an year now...

If the prices of the lcds go up, i'll be one pissed motherf*cker

I checked the Princeton Graphics displays, but they look kinda bulky...and sooo beige :) ....

well i hope those 19' LCDs are coming out this July maybe that will help spark a price drop. 15' for $500 17' $800 19' $1200 and 22' $2200.

but then again the 19' LCD mite be a widescreen Hi def monitor which could be priced easily between $1500-$1800.

Look at what ViewSonic has to offer. I have the VG175, a 17.4" LCD and it is very, very sweet. You can get the 17" model for less then the 17.4" one, and the 15" models are even less. I got the 17.4" for less then what Apple is selling their 17" model for. About $150 less at the time, which was last year.
