Anyone familiar with LoL knows that the system requirements for this game is very low. It’s available on Window and MacOS and almost any laptop can run it, certainly any modern laptop can run it. I’ve googled and have seen a lot of posts where people say they play on their MBPs and even MBAs with no issues.

So I’m not sure why my 16-inch MBP 2019 (maxed out model) struggles when I try to play LoL on it? As soon as I open the game my MBP heats up and the fan gets so loud and I end up having to close the game after a few minutes because of the noise and heat. This is on the lowest resolution and with low spec mode enabled. The new MBP really can’t handle even one of the least demanding games? I’m honestly surprised. Anyone here play LoL or have tried playing any other games on theirs? What’s your experience like?

Might have to take yours back to the store. I have a MBP 16 base model, I play LOL at 150-200fps in native resolution.
Fan noise and heat are normal, it’s not wrecking the laptop. It’s thin and light. Quit being so critical.

This is strange. I made THIS POST about Gaming on the Macbook Pro. For the moment I have tried just two game, League of Legends and Rise of the Tomb Rider. And I can say that LoL on the new MacBook Pro (MacOS) runs really well with no heat up at all! I don't really know why you are experienced this issue.

Why do you think I need to take mine back when you’re saying fan noise and heat are normal? Also, I ordered mine from the website. And I’m not being critical, I’m just worried there’s something wrong with mine because a MBP with that kind of specs should run a game like this one with no issues at all.

Very frustrating. I don’t know if it’s normal or if something is wrong with my MBP. You said no heat, what about fan noise?

I also tried with boot camp and I’m having the same issue, it heats up and the fan noise starts after only a few minutes.

What do you mean "struggles"? Is it stuttering?

Some heat and fan noise doesn't necessarily mean that it's struggling. Do you have Intel power gadget showing the temperature? Or a temperature sensor showing the temperature from the top case?

You can disregard that. It's a computer, it's working, it will generate heat. Focus on the details, define the "struggle" and determine the actual temperatures.

I’ll have to install Intel to check the temperature. It’s not stuttering or lagging, it just heats up and the fan gets really loud. That other guy says it’s strange and I checked his post and apparently he uses a cooling pad under his laptop, I’m not sure this would make a difference though. I don’t know how he’s having better results. Anyway, will this heat not damage my MacBook over time?

No. The CPU will throttle itself to manage heat output.

24/7 I’d be concerned, but a few hours at a time, not at all.

Thanks. I just installed Intel Power Gadget and the temperature is 86 degrees celsius or less, it doesn’t exceed that. Is this normal? Also I noticed the fan noise is a lot better this time for some reason. Could be because this time I had my MacBook on a desk instead of on a pillow.

86C is fine if the GPU has kicked in and yes always keep your laptop on a solid surface it’s likely the pillow was blocking the airflow from underneath the hinge.

During my test I used iStat to boost the fans to the maximum possible so... there was fan noise for sure, but simply I don't care if I can have a better thermal management in return.
