So many comments about fast charging killing batteries. Apple knows that and you don't have to feed 20W nonstop into the battery. You can monitor the temperature and state and adjust the charge rate to optimize charging and life.

I’ve had the 11 Pro since right after launch, and I exclusively use the 18W charger with the Optimized Battery Charging setting on. 97% is not bad for having used the 18W charger for 7 months now. I think Apple knows what they are doing if they decide to include the 18W charger, otherwise they wouldn’t...

Huh? How is that 20Watts? power law equation (formula): P = I × V
At 5V and 3amps, that would only make it 15 Watts. Looks fake.

Might be a new ARM based MacBook charger.... it would be around the right wattage.

Did you also see 9V @ 2.2A as the second alternate power delivery on the plug?

9 * 2.2 = 19.8 ~ 20W

- You're right. I missed that.

Looks at this thing. Looks at my set of Anker GaN USB-C chargers. Pours one out for the days when Apple accessories set the standard for something other than inflated profit margins.

Funny you cite Anker as your example, because the brand now prices its products above its peers, and its value proposition had diminished, as a competitor to both other third-parties competitor and to Apple.

Apple's accessories may not be not cheap, but the wall adapters are well-engineered.

20W is too much to maintain battery health....

Without being privy to the specifications of the cells Apple intends to use, there is no basis to make such an assertion.

While it may not be wise to ask an 18650B cell to charge or discharge at greater than 0.5C, a 30Q cell will handle 1.3C charging and 5C continuous discharge.

Battery cells, even of the same chemistry do not all conform to a singular set of specifications.

Or is the suggestion that Apple's hardware engineers will simply ignore the characteristics of the components they select?

Also once you get above 80% the charger has to push the voltage above the battery voltage to ensure a full charge which also impacts the degradation. Below 80% the charger can maintain nominal battery voltage without harm.

Q: At what point does the voltage in the CC/CV charging process exceed 4.2V (for most Li batteries), given a properly functioning charger?

A: None.

I agree. My iPhone is notable for being one of a dwindling number of devices that don't support USB-C in my apartment now. Fingers crossed the entire Apple product line moves to USB4 over USB-C the second it's available.
You think Apple is going to give up the lighting cable ? Too much money to be made selling cheap cables. That cable costs Apple less then 2.00. At Costco they are selling 6 Anker lighting cables for 24.99 (Lifetime replacement) One from apple cost's 30.00

And yet apple were the first OEM to move their portable computers entirely to USB-C.

Maybe, just maybe it is to do with the prevalence of lightning peripherals? Apple can (and do) charge a lot for USB-C cables too.

That said, in my experience the apple USB-C cables I own have a much more positive and good feeling plug engagement than others.

This is my 7 month iPhone pro that’s been charged on Apples 30 watt or ravpower’s 61 watt charger since new. The 18 watt charger is still in the box. Too slow for me!
(In reality though, if you use a power line checker, the iPhone maxes out around 22 watts or so when charging)
Charge speed doesn't affect battery life as much as leaving it plugged in all the time.
Wife who has the same phone has her phone plugged into her 18 watt charger all the time and hers is down to 95% in 7 months.

My 11 Pro Max is ~ 5 - 6 months old. I use a fast charger. I charge anytime. I am at 99% for battery health. End-of-life for the battery will not be "way faster".

I also upgrade my phone before the 2 year cycle.
Not everyone has that budget. What do you do with the old phone anyway?

My previous iPhone X I returned to my network provider for credit towards the new 11 Pro Max.

I would like to see the complete list of easy ways to impress iphone users. Is there an ebook I can download?

The book is titled "iPhone users like great products and features".

Fast charging impresses everyone. iPhone is a premium brand. If they can include fast chargers for all iPhone 12 phones they should.

2W faster
Yea it's been tested the 11s can take 22W, so why not go with at least that much. Wonder if 12 will be the same or even support more wattage.

Bumping up turtle 7.5W wireless would impress me more, especially if they are serious about portless.
