I just wonder who this is for with an iPad air being more powerful than this (supposedly).
Consider me fired up. I had the Air as well as the 12” MB. I will be buying day 1 if the design is wedge and smaller than the Air was. I have my iMac if I need to do something more.Kinda hard to get fired up about a laptop that’s a downgrade from the Air
Neo? I dunno. Why not iBook?! It's the perfect name for this category of product.
Upgrading the iPad Air storage to match the MacBook Air and adding a keyboard makes it more expensive than a MacBook Air. The MacBook Neo is for students and parents, not power users.I just wonder who this is for with an iPad air being more powerful than this (supposedly).
At 599 would be great for travel.I am wayyyyyyyy outside of the target demographic for something like this... However, it actually doesn't seem like it'll be that bad. Two USB-C ports plus MagSafe for charging is already better than what I would have expected. We'll see tomorrow.
If I have to see "fun colors" one more time...
Jesus Christ 'Neo'? Can someone in marketing have an original thought for once?
Maybe let a non-boomer come up with the names. This was a hip name 20 years ago.
There are so many better directions to go in. Perhaps borrow from apple varieties. That is where they got Macintosh from. Or go back in the history of Apple and revive iBook?
Macbook jr works. It places it as a 'less than' product, but still in the same lineage.
Neo just makes me think of card based animated TV series.
With the Air bumping up to $1099. I'd be *really* surprised (read: shocked) if the Neo came in at $599. It's gonna be $699 or $799. The former would be fine, the latter would be disappointing. At 599 would be great for travel.
I’d guess not. Unit sales of iPads have been double and sometimes triple of Macs for years. Everyone internal knows that the iPhone and iPad brings in the money to keep the lights on (with their App Store and services revenues) and the Mac is still needed to develop apps for those. If they can sell an additional few million Macs to folks that aren’t iPhone or iPad developers, they’re not against pulling in those revenues. 🙂 But, their purpose inside Apple is likely as platforms to develop content for the popular devices. There must be quite the power struggle inside Apple these days. The same company will release this product, a cheap MacBook, that has absolutely everything a MacBook user needs except the extreme horsepower of the higher end chips (which the target user doesn't need anyway)....and they will also release an expensive iPad Pro with a supercharged chip that no one can do anything with.
Personally, I think MagSafe is a waste of space. Just another single-use port whose functionality already exists on the USB-C ports. Would rather have 3 USB, or would even take an SD card slot.Magsafe is a nice surprise. Makes sense — this "introductory Mac" will set the expectations for future machines. And Apple is the only one offering magsafe.
And the carbon fiber body. 😀It’s the Neo for the new engine option. Welcome home, Airbu- err, Apple.
Yeah. I thought from beginning they’re off for thinking $599. Maybe on sale from retailers for Black Friday? With the Air bumping up to $1099. Would be happy to be wrong about this.
The bass iPad has used media tech wireless chips, and as far as I know it hasn’t hurt the product.LOL Mediatek wireless chip. In other words, shovelware e-waste.
